1955 - 1963: Pat Boon - The EP Collection |

Artist - Pat Boon Album - The EP Collection Label - M.C.P.S Year - 1955 - 1963 (release - 1997) Quality - MP3@320kb/s Size 71,5 + 49,9 MB Total time - 62:74 From 1955 to 1963, Dot Records issued 21 Pat Boone EPs in the U.S. a total of 84 tracks. During this same period, the U.K.-based London label released a staggering 37 Boone EPs. However, none of the additional 64 tracks contained therein represented fresh material: They were all taken from either previously issued LPs or recent single releases. All but two of the 84 Dot tracks were included on the 37 London EPs, and of those 82 London tracks, a total of 45 were recorded exclusively for EP release. The EP Collection, which was compiled in the U.K. and taken from the London recordings, includes only four of those "EP exclusives" among its 25 tracks. Though most of the selections here are good, representative Pat Boone material from his early years, to dub this The EP Collection is something of a misnomer, since almost all the songs were either singles or on LPs prior to making it to extended play. Unquestionably, there was enough quality material among the 45 EP-only tracks to satisfy a CD of this type. This would have yielded a true EP collection, one composed of high-caliber material both curious and rare. But tracks such as "Rock Me Baby" (from A Date With Pat Boone), "He'll Understand" (from A Closer Walk With Thee), and all four songs from the Friendly Persuasion EP, as well as many other fascinating rarities, are nowhere to be found. "Don't Forbid Me" and "Love Letters in the Sand" really have no place here, since they're commonly available elsewhere -- and especially because they're presented (inadvertently?) in the 1959 re-recorded versions, which clearly don't compare with the original hit versions from 1956 and 1957, respectively. For the Pat Boone devotee, however, The EP Collection does provide a very nice gift: a version of "That's My Desire" previously unreleased in the U.S. It's guaranteed to surprise anyone familiar with the better-known stateside version. ~ Arthur Rowe, All Music Guide |
