Artist: Various Artists Album: Sweet Emotion: Songs Of Aerosmith Label: Heavy Hip Mama Year: 2001 Genre: Blues Tracks: 13 Format: mp3, Bitrate: @ CBR 320 Size: 68 MB + 56 MB Tribute records are being crapped out in the hundreds as of late and they are getting pretty bland but here is one done a little different. Of course the blues are the basis for everything that Aerosmith has ever done, so it is fitting that this tribute to the Bean Town boys goes south for some authenticity. Here you have an impressive mix of certified blues legends (Joe Louis Walker, David ”Honeyboy” Edwards, Pinetop Perkins), mixed with a few notable rock and rollers, i.e., Lou Gramm and Marshall Crenshaw. Each artist takes Aerosmith on a walk down to the crossroads to seal that deal with the dark one and the sale of their souls for the music on this disc seems, to me, a bargain. |

Artists: Coleman Hawkins, Terry Clark Album: Back In Bean's Bag Label: Columbia Release Date: 1962 Format: MP3@320 (LP-rip) Size: 69.4 Time: 30:32 Hawkins teamed up with the personable trumpeter Clark Terry for this upbeat set of of solid swing. Terry in particular is in exuberant form on "Feedin' the Bean" and a delightful version of "Don't Worry About Me," but Hawkins's playing (particularly on the trumpeter's ballad "Michelle") is also in fine form. The Tommy Flanagan Trio assists the two classic hornmen on this superior LP. |

Mal Waldron Trio - Mal, Dance and Soul (1987) |

Artist: Mal Waldron Album: Mal, Dance and Soul Year: 1987 Label: Tutu Time: 71:07 Format: MP3 @320kbps Size: 175 mb (RS.com, with 5% file recovery) One mark of a jazz genius is his ability to continue to grow as a musician as he ages. This is certainly true of, for example, Pharoah Sanders, who is playing more beautifully than ever--and putting himself in increasingly challenging musical settings. It was also true of Stan Getz, who made three of his finest records at the very end of his career when he was dying of lung cancer. It is no less true of that great and somewhat under-rated jazz pianist, Mal Waldron. Of course, it helps to find brilliant young bandmates, players perfectly attuned to one's aesthetic, yet skilled and mature enough to push an artist along new pathways. His association with drummer John Betch and bassist Ed Schuller resulted in--to these ears, at least--his finest recordings... (more)... |

Mal Waldron Quartet featuring Jim Pepper - Quadrologue at Utopia Vol. 1 (1989) |

Artists: Mal Waldron with Jim Pepper Album: Quadrologue at Utopia, Vol. 1 Year: 1989 Label: Tutu Time: 72:27 Format: MP3 @320 kbps Size: 184mb (RS.com, w/ 5% file recovery) Mal Waldron met Pepper in Portland in 1986 when Monique Goldstein, a personal manager for both men, arranged for them to play together at the Hobbit. Their musical and personal rapport was deep and instantaneous. "Mal Dance and Soul" is mostly a trio date with Ed Schuller and John Betsch, but Pepper digs deep on Waldron's "SoulMates," a duo which he dedicated to Jim. On the CD version only, Pepper joins the group for "Solar", "Blue Monk", and Waldron's "Golden Golson." The duo set is a pure delight in musical conversation that lovers of either player will never tire of hearing. Among the ten selections are three Pepper originals not recorded elsewhere...
