     Saxophonist Curtis Amy gained some recognition for his Pacific Jazz recordings of 1960-1963, but after 1966 he worked primarily as a session and studio musician and was completely forgotten in the jazz world. In 1994, when he was 67, he was persuaded to go back in the studio and make a long-overdue jazz record for Fresh Sound. Joined by trumpeter Steve Huffsteter, trombonist Bob McChesney, Donn Wyatt or Frank Strazzeri on piano, bassist John B. Williams, and drummer Leon "Ndugu" Chancler, Amy performs three originals that he co-wrote with Wyatt, and a song apiece by Huffsteter, Strazzeri, and Rob Mullins. The music is more advanced than his work of 30 years earlier, and, unfortunately, most of the new songs are not all that memorable. On the bright side, Amy (heard on tenor and soprano) still sounded in excellent form (his chops had not declined), and it was a welcome occasion having him back in a jazz context again. -- Scott Yanow, All Music Guide.

     Представляю вам альбом английской певицы Dana Gillespie. Она начала записываться с 15 лет и попробовала себя во многих музыкальных стилях... Это один из её блюзовых альбомов.
     Хотя альбом вышел в 1995, но звучит он на мой взгляд достаточно специфично. Мне этот звук напоминает 80-е, хотя я тогда был настолько мал, что вряд ли это может мне действительно что-то напомнить... Ну да ладно...
     Приятный альбом. Особенно мне нравится Where Blue Begins. В альбоме есть бонусный трек Where Blue Begins в более "классичесом" исполнении - это произведение стоит на втором месте в моем личном хит-параде.

     It's true that Jackie's tart tone doesn't seem ideally suited to ballads, and he's best known for fiery uptempo wailing, but hardcore Japanese fans enjoyed his ballad interpretations enough to encourage him to record this set. Although there are a few moments where he sounds unintentionally strained trying to hit the melody notes, he generally achieves a mature and satisfying bittersweetness. While not representative of his strength, this is a set his fans will enjoy. David Williams' takes several melodic, compelling solos, and Cedar Walton gets ample opportunity to display his highly-refined technique. The late Billy Higgins sparks the mellow groove as much as possible, particularly on "What is This Thing Called Love", where he really pushes the beat and gets in some potent drum fills. -- Amazon.com reviewer

     Tenor saxophonist Billy Mitchell's second album as a leader (following a 1960 Jubilee date) was last available as a Trip LP in the early 1980s. Although the tenor saxophonist is in typically fine form on six obscurities and two standards ("Sophisticated Lady" and "You Turned the Tables On Me"), this record's main significance is that it features the young vibraphonist Bobby Hutcherson, who was virtually at the beginning of his career. Five of the eight songs also include trumpeter Dave Burns, pianist Billy Wallace, bassist Herman Wright and drummer Otis Finch, while the other numbers have organist Sleepy Anderson in place of Wallace and Burns.
