     The Horace Silver Quintet was arguably one of the best jazz combos of the mid-'60s, and this live CD documents two editions through broadcasts from the Half Note in New York City. A long version of his hit "Song for My Father" gives the pianist and tenor saxophonist Joe Henderson a chance to explore this landmark work at length. "Que Pasa" has a percolating descending line followed by a rather understated Silver solo. One of the two takes of "African Queen" is somewhat marred by tape flutter, but both feature enjoyable trumpet solos by the late Woody Shaw. -- AMG
