Blue Mitchell - Bring It Home To Me (1966) |
Music » Jazz » BeBop » Hard-bop |
Artist: Blue Mitchell Album: Bring It Home To Me Year: 1966 Label: Blue Note Format: MP3 @320kbps Size: 83mb (RS.com, w/ 5% file recovery) AMG Rating: **** Excellent (and hard to find) Blue Mitchell session with a good modal groove, and some nice funky Blue Note playing, in the best style of the label's mid 60's output. Blue's joined here by Junior Cook on tenor, his old bandmate from Horace Silver's group, and Harold Mabern's on piano. The set's got a lot of nice rolling lyrical moments, but it also grooves with the best of them, and has a nice solid bottom. -- Dustygroove.com |

Ahmed Abdul-Malik - Jazz Sahara |
Music » Jazz » Fusion |
Artist: Ahmed Abdul-Malik Album: Jazz Sahara Label: OJC/Riverside Year: 1958 Genre: Jazz Format: mp3 : 320kbit/s Time: 38:58 Size: 82,9 Mb+cover This CD reissue is an early example of fusing jazz with world music. Abdul-Malik switches between bass and oud; interacts closely with the droning violin of Naim Karacand, Jack Ghanaim's kanoon (a 72-string instrument), and Mike Hamway's darabeka (a percussive drum); and mixes in Al Harewood's drums and (on three of the four selections) the tenor of Johnny Griffin. The music is a qualified success, essentially Middle Eastern folk music with Griffin added in. This set is interesting and, in its own way, innovative but not essential. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide |
