REPOST with new links
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MY DEAR OSCAR!

Oscar Peterson is Canada's gift to jazz piano — Montreal's to be exact. With the exception of Art Tatum, he may be the greatest technician of all time.
Peterson began studying classical music at the age of six and was playing professionally in his mid-teens. In 1949, he appeared with Jazz at the Philharmonic, Norman. Granz's concert series, in a Carnegie Hall performance that astounded listeners by the display of his prodigious chops. Two years later he formed a trio with bassist Ray Brown and guitarist Irving Ashby, who was replaced by Barney Kessel and later by Herb Ellis. The Peterson, Brown, and Ellis group is one of the longest lived in jazz history; although they have disbanded they always seem to get back together, and the group continues to record as a unit in the Nineties. Another highly respected Peterson trio was formed in 1958 and featured bassist Brown and drummer Ed Thigpen.

AMG Rating: The Oscar Peterson Trio At Zardis (1955)

The group that Oscar Peterson led between 1953-58 with guitarist Herb Ellis and bassist Ray Brown was one of the great piano trios of all time. It was never so much a matter of Peterson having two other musicians accompany him as it was that they could meet the pianist as near-equals and consistently inspire him. And unlike most trios, Peterson's had many arranged sections that constantly needed rehearsals and were often quite dazzling. This live double-CD from 1955 has previously unreleased (and unknown) performances of 31 songs (28 standards plus three of Peterson's originals) that were released for the first time in 1994. The pianist is often in typically miraculous form, Ellis (whether playing harmonies, offering short solos or getting his guitar to sound like a conga by tapping it percussively) proves to be a perfect partner, and Brown's subtle but sometimes telepathic contributions should not be overlooked either. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide

Horace Parlan - Happy Frame of Mind
Artist: Horace Parlan
Album: Happy Frame of Mind
Label: Blue Note
Quality: FLAC & MP3@320
Size: 247 MB & 87 MB
Time: 38:53

Happy Frame of Mind finds Horace Parlan breaking away from the soul-inflected hard bop that had become his trademark, moving his music into more adventurous, post-bop territory. Aided by a first-rate quintet -- trumpeter Johnny Coles, tenor saxophonist Booker Ervin, guitarist Grant Green, bassist Butch Warren, drummer Billy Higgins -- Parlan produces a provocative set that is grounded in soul and blues but stretches out into challenging improvisations. None of the musicians completely embrace the avant-garde, but there are shifting tonal textures and unpredictable turns in the solos which have been previously unheard in Parlan's music. Perhaps that's the reason why Happy Frame of Mind sat unissued in Blue Note's vaults until 1976, when it was released as part of a double-record Booker Ervin set, but the fact of the matter is, it's one of Parlan's most successful efforts, finding the perfect middle ground between accessible, entertaining jazz and more adventurous music. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide

REPOST

Sidney Bechet's first Blue Note period was tapped for this Definitive Classics compilation released in the year 2000. Summertime was not only Bechet's first Blue Note record -- it was among the first Blue Note recordings ever made by anybody. This album is a solid core sample of Bechet's best Blue Note sessions, recorded between June 1939 and February 1946. Apparently Bechet's 1949 Blue Notes were deemed unworthy of inclusion here. The magnificent lineup of musicians who did find their way onto this compilation includes trumpeters Sidney de Paris, Max Kaminsky and Bunk Johnson; trombonists Vic Dickenson and George Lugg; clarinetist Albert Nicholas; bassists Pops Foster and Wilson Myers; guitarist Teddy Bunn; pianists Art Hodes and Meade "Lux" Lewis; drummers Danny Alvin, Manzie Johnson and Sid Catlett, and singing guitarist Josh White. True to their name, Definitive Classics has given the world an excellent introduction to the music of Sidney Bechet and traditional jazz in general. ~ arwulf arwulf, All Music Guide

Перед вами образчик очень красивой музыки.
Все песни как на подбор, изящные и, я бы сказал, воздушные. Радости! wink

Although Dutch singer Laura Fygi initially garnered notice as a member of the disco group Centerfold, after setting out in 1992 as a solo performer she pursued a more jazz-inspired path with her debut effort Introducing Laura Fygi. On subsequent efforts including 1993's Bewitched and the following year's The Lady Wants to Know, she collaborated with figures including Johnny Griffin, Toots Thielemans and Clark Terry, and in 1997 Fygi worked with one of her idols, the great composer Michel Legrand, on Watch What Happens. ~ Jason Ankeny , AMG

This 1960 trio date was pianist Parlan’s first of many great releases for Blue Note. The Pittsburgh native, who overcame polio as a child that left his right hand crippled, had gained some serious props with his contributions on two of Charles Mingus’ best albums the year prior (Mingus Ah Um, Blues And Roots), and was now ready to step out on his own. Choosing to tackle mostly standards, Parlan channels his idol Bud Powell’s classic trio dates with the able assistance of Blue Note regulars Sam Jones, bass, and drummer Al Harewood. The result is an eclectic mix, interpreting the works of Tadd Dameron, Duke Ellington, Milt Jackson, and Burke-Van Heusen plus a Parlan original, “Up In Cynthia’s Room”, which became one of his signature pieces. This Classic Blue Note Signature LP Reissue Series release was mastered and cut on Classic’s ALL TUBE MONO cutting system allowing the listener to hear the music as Rudy Van Gelder mixed and intended it to be heard – in PURE MONO with no “faux stereo” artifacts from using a stereo cutter head! As always this release features authentic tip on jackets with film laminate front covers. Try and find an original that looks and sounds this good at any price!
