Houston Person with Ron Carter - Just Between Friends(2005) |

Artist: Houston PersonAlbum: Just Between FriendsYear: 2005 Label: Highnote Genre: Jazz Format, bitrate: MP3@320 kb/s Time: 0:53:54 Size: 126,33 MB И ещё один альбом Хьюстона Персона с Роном Картером. По-моему весьма неплохо, а как считаете вы? When you have jazz legends, Houston Person, among the last of the old school big toned tenors, teamed with bass titan, Ron Carter, whose impeccable bass lines have graced five decades of jazz history - and you record these masters in the legendary Van Gelder Studio with Rudy handling all the engineering, recording and mastering duties - then you have the recipe for success. More aptly, you have the guarantee of a classic duo recording. You cap your investment by choosing classic standards by the likes of Irving Berlin, Jimmy Van Heusen, Antonio Jobim, and Oscar Hammerstein. What would be a pedestrian session in less capable hands becomes sonic pleasure. Person gives soulful renditions of these chestnuts and Carter’s walking bass lines and spot-perfect accompaniment lifts each track to a blissful listening experience. Last year’s Houston Person and Bill Charlap High Note duo recording was high on my “best of “ list. Now Houston is back with another masterpiece, taking a more central role backed by the perfect bassist for a duo recording. Rudy Van Gelder’s recording expertise allows for an “in the studio” ambience. Bravo! ~ Jeff Krow |

Artist: Jimmy Rip Album: Way Past Blue Year: 1996 Label: House of Blues Format, bitrate: MP3, 320 kbps Time: 55:58 Size: 132 MB |

Artist: Clifford JordanAlbum: SpellboundLabel: Riverside Quality: FLAC & MP3@320 Size: 243 MB & 90 MB Time: 40:30 Tenor-saxophonist Clifford Jordan was sponsored by Cannonball Adderley on this set for Riverside which has been reissued on CD in the OJC series. Jordan did not at this point quite have the distinctive sound that he would develop by his period with Charles Mingus but he was already a strong hard bop stylist. Assisted by pianist Cedar Walton, bassist Spanky DeBrest and drummer Albert "Tootie" Heath, Jordan performs four originals ("Toy" is best known), an unusual waltz version of "Lush Life," the ballad "Last Night When We Were Young" and the romping Charlie Parker blues "Au Privave." It's an excellent straightahead outing. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide |

Artistc: Ketil Björnstad & David DarlingAlbum: The RiverLabel: ECM Year: 1997 Tracks: 12 mp3@320 Kbps Size:96 Mb An untypically calm duo sequence, emerging in the course of the recording of Ketil Bjørnstad's The Sea - a quartet album on the whole more given to tempestuous intensities - provided the impetus for The River. As the title implies, its flow is steadier than that of its predecessor, its scale more intimate. Ideas ferried between cello and piano in the 1994 session had suggested echoes in older music and Bjørnstad set about following these echoes to their source: |

Artist - Julian Sas Album - Light in the DarkLabel - Corazong Records Quality - 320 kbps - covers Size: 84,9+82,6mb Asked about influences, Sas replies; when I hear Jeff Beck play it starts to itch. He plays with such simplicity and at the same time with such fanaticism. Unbelieveable. I am a real Jimi Hendrix fan too. He has not yet been surpassed. Stevie Ray Vaughan I think is fantastic, but the difference between him and Jimi is that if you were to hear him every night you will notice there are only minor differences in his playing. Whilst Jimi could be stumbling over his strings one night and the next night be so brilliant that you would seriously consider selling all your gear. Jimi knew no boundaries. When he was doing Hey Joe, his mind was already busy with totally different things. What he wanted to do with Miles Davis I think is fascinating. I am a real Miles Davis fan. He is the Jimi of the Jazz world. When I was just 16 I saw Buddy Guy. He played with great dynamics. Dynamics, in my opinion, are one of the most important tools in music; a quiet song with a strong bridge or a loud song with a very quiet bridge. And of course Rory Gallagher, my greatest hero. I had the privilege and honour of playing with his band 3 times. The Allman Brothers Band is fantastic too. Once they get started, there is no stopping them. Just like us. |

Eddie Harris (with the WDR Big Band) - The Last Concert |

Artist: Eddie HarrisAlbum: The Last ConcertYear: 1996, release - 1997 Label:Act Music Quality:320 kbps Size: 78,6+76,7 mb (with frontcover) Unless something unauthorized turns up, this appears to be Eddie Harris' last recording. The concert was taped in Europe -- where Harris was far more respected in his last years than in America -- eight months before his death. The occasion would be an atypical affair for him, appearing as a featured soloist (along with the fine trombonist Nils Landgren and, on one track, trumpeter John Marshall) in front of the WDR Big Band in Cologne. At first, the program consists of a series of straight-ahead Gil Goldstein charts on well-worn soul-jazz classics like "Sidewinder," "Moanin'," "Wade in the Water," and "Work Song," and then takes a decided, somewhat less successful turn toward '60s soul on "When a Man Loves a Woman" and "Gimme Some Lovin'" (with idiomatic vocals by Haywood J. Gregory). Of Harris' own corpus of tunes, only the inevitable "Freedom Jazz Dance" appears here (in an Arif Mardin chart), with Eddie offering probably the last of his fascinating run of solos over the previous three decades on his bewildering tune. Though ailing at the time (the inside photo shows that he doesn't look well at all), Harris is still in undiminished, swinging, highly individual form through the concert, gliding easily over the rhythm section on tenor sax and switching on some of his electronic octave doubling and harmonizing effects. By now, his vocabulary of funky licks had long been set in stone, so there are no revelations, just an assured apotheosis of his distinctive style. The day after the concert, Harris and Goldstein went into WDR Studio 4 to record a long, poignant duo encore, "You Stole My Heart," which features an unexpectedly deep, soulful vocal by Eddie and a pair of lingering, pithy, affectionate tenor solos that seem to bid farewell in a most touching way. Whether he knew it or not, that last tune is a marvelous epitaph. ~ Richard Ginell, All Music Guide |

Memphis Slim & Buddy Guy - Southside Reunion (1970) |

Artist: Memphis Slim & Buddy Guy Album: Southside Reunion Year: Rec. 1970/Rel. 2004 Label:SunnySide Records, France Format: MP 3 @ 320 Kb/s Time: 45:58 Size: 71.5+30.7 Mb Pianist/singer Peter "Memphis Slim" Chatman (1915-1988) enjoyed one of the longest and most successful careers in blues history. His trademarks were hearty, robust singing (somewhat similar to that of B.B. King) and style on the keys that's equal parts earthiness and elegance. Slim moved to France in 1962, and in 1970, fellow blues stars Buddy Guy and Junior Wells were passing through and set aside some studio time with their old friend. SOUTHSIDE REUNION (originally released in 1972) was the result, a set of relaxed but high-spirited performances, notable for unusually restrained yet sweetly stinging guitar work by Guy. Happy birthday Buddy! Enjoy! REPOST

Artist: Jimmy Forrest Album: Sit Down and Relax with Jimmy Forrest Year: rec.September 1, 1961/Rel. 1998 Label: Prestige Format: MP3 @ 320 Kb/s Time:41:47 Size: 57.2 +34.2 Mb A fine all-round tenor player, Jimmy Forrest is best-known for recording "Night Train," a song that he "borrowed" from the last part of Duke Ellington's "Happy Go Lucky Local." While in high school in St. Louis, Forrest worked with pianist Eddie Johnson, the legendary Fate Marable, and the Jeter-Pillars Orchestra. In 1938, he went on the road with Don Albert and then was with Jay McShann's Orchestra (1940-1942). In New York, Forrest played with Andy Kirk (1942-1948) and Duke Ellington (1949) before returning to St. Louis. After recording "Night Train," Forrest became a popular attraction and recorded a series of jazz-oriented R&B singles. Among his most important later associations were with Harry "Sweets" Edison (1958-1963), Count Basie's Orchestra (1972-1977), and Al Grey, with whom he co-led a quintet until his death. Forrest recorded for United (reissued by Delmark), Prestige/New Jazz (1960-1962), and Palo Alto (1978). ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide Enjoy! REPOST
