Tom Jobim - Ao Vivo Em Montreal     Artist: Antonio Carlos Jobim
Title: Ao Vivo Em Montreal (Live in Montreal)
     Year: 1986
     Label: Biscoito Fino
     Format: 320 kb/s+CUE+LOG+Covers

This CD shows the maestro with his ”Banda Nova” (New Band) at the International Jazz Festival in Canada, in 1986.

Bossa-nova classics are tantamount to Jobim’s songs and to Brazilian identity throughout the world: ”Бgua de beber” (Drinking water), ”Chega de saudade” (I’ve had enough of missing you), ”A felicidade” (Happiness), ”Garota de Ipanema (The Girl from Ipanema) are songs composed together with Vinicius de Moraes.; ”Samba de uma nota sу” (Samba with only one note) was written in partnership with Newton Mendonзa. . This CD contains also songs with both, lyrics and melodies, composed by Jobim after the beginning of the decade of the 60ies: ”Wave”, ”Samba do aviгo” (Samba of the airplane), ”Waters of March”, an English version of "Бguas de marзo", tranlated by Tom himself. ”Two Kites”, ”Gabriela”, ”Falando de amor” (Speaking of love), and ”Borzeguim" (Buskin) are composition from the 70ies and 80ies,period during which Tom used to come to Brazil to revisit Rio de Janeiro and make the souls of all Brazilians sing.

Wycliffe Gordon - The Joyride (2003)
     Artist: Wycliffe Gordon
     Album: The Joyride
     Label: Nagel Heyer
     Original Year: 2003
     Format/Bitrate: MP3/320 kbit/s
     Size: 100 mb + 42 mb
AMG Rating: Wycliffe Gordon - The Joyride (2003)

This is one of the overlooked greats in the jazz canon.
In eleven spectacularly varied tracks, Wycliffe Gordon (the trombonist for many Wynton Marsalis bands over the years) shows you everything that a trombone can do in the hands of a skilled musician.
Gordon is backed by an impressive line-up of modern-day greats, including Victor Goines on sax and clarinet.
The band rocks, croons, improvises and shows more originality and pure energy that you're likely to find in any recent recording.
The "joy" in The Joyride truly lives up to its name. Try it and see.

Rein De Graaff Trio Ft. Herb Geller & John Marshal - Blue Lights     Artist: Rein De Graaff Trio Ft. Herb Geller & John Marshal

     Year: 2005
     Label: Blue Jack Jazz records
     Quality: MP3 @320 + all covers
     Playing Time: 0:52:13
     Size: 66 + 65 MB

     About the musicians:
     Rein de Graaff:
Listening to Gigi Gryce's music for many years, he finally got the idea to put a group together, to perform his music exclusively. The band made an extensive tour in 2004, and performed at the North Sea Jazz Festival in 2005. Two days later the recordings on this album were made. Rein is a self-taught pianoplayer largely influenced by Charlie Parker. But above all he is considered as one of the best accompanists of 'travelling Americans' in Europe. He made his first recordings with his own quartet (co-led by tenorist Dick Vennik) in 1969. From the late 60's on, de Graaff toured with his trio plus guests, and occasionally recorded with Dexter Gordon, Johnny Griffin, Teddy Edwards, Arnett Cobb, Al Cohn, Dave Pike, Charles McPherson, David 'Fathead' Newman, Von Freeman, Buck Hill, Ronnie Cuber, Gary Foster, Bud Shank and many others. In 1987 he began to give lecture programmes, entitled 'Stoomcursus Bebop' (Crash Course Bebop), with the assistance of important American musicians. > more >>>

Live recording made on the second day of 43-day Chet Baker Quartet's performance in the Tiffany Club - the most famous night club in Los Angeles of that era, which had presented during those years the top of jazz musicians: Dave Brubeck, Billie Holiday, Stan Getz, Nat "King" Cole, Serge Chaloff, Oscar Peterson, George Shearing, Charlie Parker, Johnny Hodges, Max Roach, Clifford Brown, and Art Pepper among others. On this recording Chet is almost in the beginning of his career and is still full of strength and assurance, blowing them through his trumpet, accompanied by turbocharged pianist Russ Freeman, bassist Carson Smith and drummer Bob Neel.
Bob Neel.

This third and final Pacific Jazz volume of the Chet Baker Quartet in concert continues with more music from the August 1954 date at the Tiffany Club in Los Angeles (some of which was heard on Vol. 2 in this CD series). Baker is in great form on trumpet throughout this performance, accompanied by pianist Russ Freeman, bassist Carson Smith, and drummer Bob Neel. The group is well-rehearsed and in top form, beginning with a turbocharged run through Charlie Parker's "My Little Suede Shoes." There are some songs previously covered in different versions on the earlier volumes ("Line for Lyons," "My Old Flame," "Carson City Stage," as well as Freeman's "The Wind" and "Russ Job"), but these versions not only measure up to the earlier ones but in several cases improve upon them. Freeman's inventive bop solos are another highlight of this release, especially in up-tempo tracks such as "Zing Went the Strings of My Heart." For novelty, Baker also plays boo-bam (a series of small drums made of timber bamboo) between his trumpet solos on four tracks, though he generally remains in the background on the instrument. For a nightclub recording of this era, the audience is surprisingly quiet and one isn't distracted by clinking glasses, ringing cash registers, and the occasional drunk talking at the top of his lungs. Although all of the selections previously appeared on a Mosaic box set, that long out of print collector's item would command a hefty price tag, so this individual CD, along with the Pacific Jazz CDs which preceded it, is a highly recommended and much more affordable alternative.

REPOST with new links

In the 1950s, Nelson Riddle was Capitol Records' top arranger and one of the most sought-after talents in the West Coast music business, writing charts and running sessions for the likes of Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Peggy Lee, Nat King Cole, Rosemary Clooney, and many more. When he wasn't busy working with other people, Riddle cut several notable albums of his own, and two of them are paired up on this CD reissue from Collectables Records.

Sarah Jane Cion - Summer night   Artist: Sarah Jane Cion
   Album: Summer night
   Label : Naxos Jazz
   Year: 2001
   Quality: mp3 @320

Sarah Jane Cion's Summer Night is a fine recording that echoes a "summer night" sentiment with its lighthearted smooth jazz compositions. Don't get the wrong idea, though — this isn't smooth jazz; instead it's smooth jazz, relaxed piano reminiscent of Muzak, Mantovani, and particularly Andre Previn's beautiful music forays, but there's nothing kitschy about this recording — this is the real deal. Just like much of the beautiful music before it, it was cheapened, thrown into the easy listening category, and compared, awfully, to Muzak, a mind- and productivity-enhancing music programmed around sleep cycles and the like. Sarah Jane Cion's band is tight, and for this recording she's using Phil Palombi on bass and Billy Hart on drums with a few guest spots by Michael Brecker on tenor sax. This is an excellent recording and one that manages to be entertaining, exciting, relaxing, and contemplative while at the same time not being derivative, phony, or overly glossy like much of the contemporary jazz out there. This is a highly rated recording. A fine work, indeed.

"Craig Harris returns with an ambitious, fully-realized project composed to commemorate the centennial of W.E.B. Du Bois' The Souls of Black Folks. Recruiting ten of the strongest voices playing today, including Steve Coleman, Hamiet Bluiett, Oliver Lake and Don Byron, Harris creates a powerful suite recorded live over two CDs. Twelve years have elapsed since Harris' last recorded solo project, during which time he actively participated in numerous multimedia performance pieces as composer, performer, conceptualist, curator and artistic director. A veteran of Sun Ra, David Murray, Muhal Richard Abrams, Lester Bowie's Brass Fantasy and Henry Threadgill, Harris delivers an eminently listenable work that inspires, uplifts and satisfies.
