Artist: David LiebmanAlbum: Lieb plays WilderLabel: DayBreak Year: 2003 Quality: 320 kbps Size: 143 mb Total time - 62:43 "His sound on the soprano saxophone and the intensity of his Playing are highly recognizable. Dave Liebman worked with Miles Davis, Chick Corea, Elvin Jones and many others but his own oeuvre is also quite impressive and voluminous. Liebman about 'Lieb Plays Wilder': ' Alec Wilder was an extraordinary artist of the 20th century, a composer of classical and pop music as well as a cogent writer concerning music. I have recommended his book in a past newsletter,” The American Popular Song 1900-1950” as a fantastic review from a musical perspective of the Broadway and movie music which constitutes the American song book. As a dedication to him, I recorded a trio record with bassist Marius Beets and one of the most swinging drummers around, Eric Ineke, both of whom live in Holland. It is straight ahead jazz Playing a varied repertoire of an important composer of our time." |

Artist: Gerry Mulligan Album: Something Borrowed, Something BlueLabel: Limelight Год/Year: 1966 Стиль/Style: Jazz Качество/Quality: APE + cover Размер/Size: 192 MB This unusual quintet set finds Gerry Mulligan playing alto rather than baritone on four of the six selections. Tenor-saxophonist Zoot Sims co-stars and, with the assistance of a fine rhythm section (pianist Warren Bernhardt, bassist Eddie Gomez and drummer Dave Bailey), the complementary horns explore Bix Beiderbecke's "Davenport Blues," the standard "New Orleans," "Sometime Ago" and three obscure but worthwhile Mulligan originals. This forgotten collector's item (the LP has not been available for decades) features swinging music with plenty of fine moments. ~ Scott Yanow, AMG |

Artist: Gerry Mulligan Album: The Genius of Gerry MulliganLabel - Pacific Records Год/Year: 1952-57 Качество/Quality: APE + cover Размер/Size: 171 MB This nice sampler of Gerry Mulligan's Pacific Jazz recordings of 1951-57 starts with a couple of pre-quartet numbers ("Get Happy" and "She Didn't Say Yes") and then a few meetings with trumpeter Chet Baker. Altoist Lee Konitz sits in on "I Can't Believe That You're In Love With Me," two songs feature Mulligan's mid-'50s group with valve trombonist Bob Brookmeyer, and this LP concludes with an Annie Ross vocal on "The Lady's In Love With You." All of this material has since become available elsewhere, but for those just starting to explore Gerry Mulligan's music, this is a good sampling of the baritonist's talents. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide |

Artists - Slam Stewart, Cozy Cole Album - Jumpin' At The DeucesLabel - History/TIM Years - 1944-46, release - 2002 Quality - MP3@192mb/s Size - CD1 - 94,2mb, CD2 - 76,1mb Total time: CD1 - 70:07, CD2 - 57:04 На этом комплекте 2CD вы услышите двух замечательных музыкантов ЭРЫ СВИНГА, уже хорошо вам знакомого "мурлыкающего" басиста Slam Stewart и замечательного барабанщика Cozy ColeВ сессиях участвуют самые знаменитые музыканты тех лет!Классика джаза!!! REPOST! Slam Stewart was born today - 21 September 1914! This two-CD release is part of the History label's From Swing to Bebop Series. This edition features Slam Stewart and Cozy Cole as leaders of their own groups on recordings made from 1944 through 1946 for Continental, Manor, and Musicraft. These combos included some very impressive jazz artists, such as Erroll Garner, Charlie Shavers, Shorty Rogers, Coleman Hawkins, Don Byas, Red Norvo, and others who were to become jazz icons. Sometimes the two rhythm men are part of the same group, as on eight cuts from a 1945 Cole-led session. As expected, there are several cuts where Stewart engages in his archetypal simultaneous bowing and humming gambit, as on such cuts as "Coppin' Out" and "Dark Eyes." But the CD also has Stewart vocalizing without singing into the bass on "Oh Me, Oh My, Oh Gosh." It turns out he has a pleasant, unassuming way with a tune. The second CD showcases Cole's prowess as one of the foundations of swing drumming. He gets in some solid solos on such tracks as "Look Here." These sessions have Cole working in groups that included not only Shavers, but Aaron Sachs and Billy Taylor. And one of the nice features of this CD is that listeners get to hear them at their best, even though some of the material may be somewhat lightweight. June Hawkins shows up for some vocals with the group headed by Byas. This CD is of interest not only for the quality of its performances and for its focusing on two seminal figures of jazz, but also because it was part of the stand that swing was taking against "the new music, bebop." ~ Dave Nathan, All Music Guide |

Ana Caram - Postcards from Rio |

Artist: Ana Caram Album: Postcards From Rio Label: Chesky Records Type : Compilation Genre: Jazz Styles: Jazz, Brazilian Jazz, Vocal Jazz, Bossa Nova Release Date: October 13, 1998 Quality / Bitrate: MP3 / 320 kbit/s / 44.1 Khz / Stereo Total Time: 58:40 Min She was born in the countryside of Sao Paulo state, "discovered" at a jazz festival in Finland, acclaimed in Japan, and recorded in New York City. Perhaps it seems ironic that this retrospective of Ana Caram's music is titled Postcards from Rio. Yet her five albums on Chesky are all imbued with the atmosphere of this captivating city, whose music transforms everyone it touches. This influence is reflected in the mood, indeed in the very title, of Rio After Dark (JD28, 1989), represented here by "Alagoas" and unforgettable versions of "Anos Dourados" and "Meditation" featuring the quintessential Rio musician himself, Antonio Carlos Jobim. Michael Franks' bossa nova tribute to the master, "Antonio's Song" is a highlight of Amazonia (JD45, 1990), which also includes Ivan Lins' lovely "illuminados." A collection of lesser-known Jobim masterpieces, including "Samba Torto," is presented in The Other Side of Jobim (JD73, 1992). Classics like "A Voz do Morro" and new songs like "Africando" and title track "Maracana" (a tribute to the enormous Rio soccer stadium) come from Ana's fourth Chesky release (JD104, 1993). The music of Bossa Nora (JD129, 1995), including "Garota de Ipanema," "Agua de Beber" "Samba de Verao," dates from this '60s, while the sound is state-of-the-art '90's, but the feelings preserved on this album, recorded only weeks after Jobim's passing, are timeless. This same session also resulted in two previously unreleased tracks, Baden Powell and Vinicius de Moreas's "Pra Que Chorar" and Ana's strikingly beautiful "Anaorar." The strength of Ana's music is in her passion to express the things closest to her heart; the beauty of nature, the comforts of friendship, the joys and sorrows of romance--with honesty, spontaneity, depth of feeling, and a lively sense of humor. As she has blessed her listeners with this music, may she continue to be blessed as her career continues to unfold. These fourteen musical postcards were created with love and recorded with a freshness and clarity impossible to capture in multitrack. Postcards from Rio, to the world, and to you. |

Ranee Lee - Seasons of love |
Music » Jazz » Vocal Jazz |
 |
 |
Artist: Ranee LeeAlbum: Seasons of loveLabel: Justin Time Year: 1997 Quality: mp3 @320 Size: 84+79 mb Ranee Lee is a talented jazz singer, but just in average form on this set. Her renditions of such warhorses as "Old Folks," "My One and Only Love," "Spring Can Really Hang You Up the Most" and "Everything Must Change" do not make one forget the definitive versions, and the lesser-known material (which includes two Lee originals) is not overly memorable. Most interesting is a version of "'Tis Autumn" that has the rhythm section playing a furious doubletime while the singer sounds quite relaxed at a slower tempo. Lee is joined by pianist Tilden Webb, guitarist Richard Ring, bassist John Clayton, drummer Jeff Hamilton and (on three numbers) a very restrained David Murray on tenor. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide |

Benny Carter & Phil Woods - My Man Benny, My Man Phil |

 |
Artist: Benny Carter & Phil WoodsAlbum: My Man Benny, My Man Phil Release Date: 1989 Label: Music Master Quality: mp3 @320 Size: 139 mb Total Time: 60:12 It is extremely difficult to believe that Benny Carter was 82 years old at the time of this recording, for his strong sound (nothing feeble about his playing) and fertile ideas on alto make him sound as if he were a contemporary of Phil Woods, who was born 24 years later. Together Carter and Woods form a mutual-admiration society which can be heard on "My Man Phil." The repertoire on this CD is particularly inspired (highlighted by "Sultry Serenade," "I'm Just Wild About Harry" and two versions of the atmospheric "Just a Mood"). Carter takes two trumpet solos while, on "We Were in Love," Woods contributes some tasteful clarinet. A special and relaxed but occasionally hard-swinging date, this Music Masters CD is quite enjoyable. |
