     After recording Wish for Warner Bros. in a quartet with guitarist Pat Metheny, bassist Charlie Haden and drummer Billy Higgins, young tenorman Joshua Redman hit the road with the same group (except with Christian McBride in Haden's place). This European CD, probably a bootleg, shows just how exciting the band was live. On 70 minutes of music recorded in a San Francisco club, Redman often indulges in close interplay and exciting tradeoffs with Metheny; the two clearly inspired each other. The recording quality is decent, and the performances overall actually exceed Wish in passion and creativity. Highlights include "Blues for Pat," an 181/2-minute version of "St. Thomas" and "Carla's Groove." All Joshua Redman and Pat Metheny fans will want this one. ~ Scott Yanow, AMG

     Все знают Yoji Biomehanika, японского супер звездного, артистичного, невероятно харизматичного любителя тяжелой музыки, участника почти всех фестивалей, хоть как-то связанных с hard style форматами. Больше похожий на рок-звезду, чем на ди-джея, Yoji разрушает все известные стандарты, чтобы шокировать публику и предвосхитить все ожидания.
     С начала этого года он безжалостно уничтожает второе слово своего псевдонима, тем самым еще раз подчеркивая всю непредсказуемость образа. И настоящий релиз не противоречит его привычке рушить стереотипы о себе и своей музыкальной политике.

     Участие Yoji в серии компиляций Ministry of Sound уже играет мировому бренду на руку. А если упомянуть то, что музыка всех трех дисков из компиляции ненормального японца сплошь быстрая, разъяренная и неумолимая? Смиксованные hard dance, trance и classic форматы включают треки от Vandall, Vinylgroover, Si Begg, Darude и многих других.

     Tech Dance is Yojis own bespoke take on Hard Dance and Trance. Formerly known as Yoji Biomechanka, Yoji hailing from Japan has become a God in the Hard Dance scene playing all over the globe to crowds of thousands.      Recorded in Madagascar and Paris at the turn of the 60-70s, the music of the young Malagasy players and their mentor Jef Gilson evokes Dorothy Ashby, Coltrane and the best Chicago honkers. Their version of 'The Creator has a masterplan'competes with the original (some of us even think it is better), the drive of the malagasy percussions and the haunting sound of the valiha (traditionnal harp) will put you in an enlighting trance.

    This CD is much more unusual for the GRP label than it is for violinist Stephane Grappelli.    Lafayette Leake (1920 - 1990) was born in Winona, Mississippi. He was a desperately shy man and much of his early life is still unknown. He seemed to have some formal classical training which accounted for his dazzling technique and ability to play Chopin and duplicate other pianists by ear.
   We pick up on his trail in the early ‘50’s when he replaced Leonard Caston in the Big Three Trio, whose bass player Willie Dixon would become a lifelong friend of Lafayette’s, and naturally they went on to become the mainstay in the Chess studios.
   His resume for the Chess sessions in Chicago of the ‘50’s through the ‘60’s is nothing short of spectacular. He was the unheralded piano man of countless sessions with Chuck Berry, Otis Rush, Junior Wells, Little Walter, Sonny Boy Williamson and many others.
   He was known for his authentic blues voicing and accompaniment, with just the right touch added. He could also kick it up and do some mean barrel house boogie woogie with a pile driving left hand, a throwback to the era when the piano player had to play it all and be heard above the crowd. He was well versed and accomplished in all aspects of the blues, and is certainly one of the genres true unsung heroes.
