For her third recording, Coleman continues to show the promise that her previous CDs gave a glimpse of. While still not as much of a blues devotee as she could be, she gives all indications of being a solid performer, a steadily improving vocalist, and a decent guitarist. She wrote three of the 11 cuts here, and they're the best of the lot. "What Goes Around" is a good 12-bar tune about cheatin' and messin' around; "Another Hoping Fool" is a slinky blues number about waiting by the telephone for that reassuring late-night call; and the title track sounds much like a Dire Straits tune, especially in the spare guitar playing of Coleman and Jack Holder. Coleman interprets Little Johnny Taylor's "If You Love Me Like You Say" in a cool funk mode, jumps into the direct blues of the adapted classic "I'm a Woman," and rocks the Jerry Williams number "Nothin' to Do With Love," which has all the potential to be a legitimate hit. On the boogie beat of "Don't Lie to Me" and the hard swing of the getting-back-to-love statement "So Damn Easy," Coleman changes up a bit to a more authentic blues style. She rocks on the simple "Look What You Do to Me," rocks even harder for "Confused," and goes into a more Southern-rock area on "The Day It Comes." She also uses pop/R&B-ish background vocals on "Look What You Do," "The Day," and "So Damn Easy." Deborah Coleman is still on the trail of eclipsing Sue Foley, Debbie Davies, and Susan Tedeschi to take her place as the high priestess of contemporary blues.      С прекрасным би-боповым баритон-саксофонистом Pepper Adams уважаемые члены нашего клуба уже знакомы, в качестве сайд-мена он был представлен на альбомах Lee Morgan (что является скорее исключением, чем правилом) и Donald Byrd (его работы с этим трубачом должны быть известны, пожалуй, всем).

     Но были у него и сольные проекты. С первым из них мне и хочется вас познакомить. Да, это би-боп, с явными оттенками West coast стиля - но слушается это чрезвычайно приятно...

Эта музыкальная подборка дает общее представление о творчестве одного из талантливых руководителей отечественного джаз-оркестра, композитора н аранжировщика Николая Минха.
Минх Николай Григорьевич (15.03.1912 - 2.11.1982) - дирижер, пианист, композитор.

Родился в Саратове. В 1926 г. окончил Пензенский музыкальный техникум по классу фортепиано, в 1926—1930 гг. учился в Ленинградском музыкальном техникуме по классу фортепиано и композиции. С 1930 выступал как пианист в различных джаз-ансамблях, в том числе в "Джаз-Капелле", где прозвучали его первые сочинения. Работал концертмейстером балета в Ленинградском мюзик-холле.

В 1934—1940 гг. — пианист, аккордеонист и аранжировщик в Теаджазе Л.Утесова. В его аранжировках звучали такие популярные песни, как "Будьте здоровы!", "Лейся, песня", "Пароход", "Все хорошо, прекрасная маркиза"; инструментальная пьеса "Десять лет джаза" и др. В 1940 г. возглавил Эстрадный оркестр Ленинградского радио.

С первых дней войны в Народном ополчении, участвовал в боях. После ранения руководил оркестром театра Краснознаменного Балтийского флота (1942—1945). Вместе с В.Витлиным и Л.Круцем написал и поставил в блокадном Ленинграде оперетту "Раскинулось море широко" (1942). В 1945—1952 гг. Минх - дирижер Эстрадно-симфонического оркестра Ленинградского радио.

В 1954—1963 гг. - музыкальный руководитель и дирижер оркестра Моского театра эстрады. Писал музыку к эстрадным спектаклям. Умело привлекал к работе в театре молодых композиторов, вскоре получивших известность (Ю.Саульский, В.Терлецкий, Я.Френкель и др.). Написал ряд музыкальных комедий, поставленных театрами.
Минх один из создателей отечественной эстрадной и джазовой музыки. В 1966—1982 гг. возглавлял Комиссию эстрадно-инструментальной музыки Союза композиторов Москвы, ставшую центром джазовой жизни столицы. Минх - автор сочинений для эстрадного оркестра и более 150 песен.

Nice collection of 1952-1955 sides with an urban blues twist by McGhee, with Terry's contributions limited to harmonica only and guitarists Stick McGhee and Mickey Baker checking in over the course of the dozen entries.
