Gerry Mulligan - Lonesome Boulevard (1989)
   Artist: Gerry Mulligan
   Album: Lonesome Boulevard
   Label: A&M (1990)
   Year: 1989
   Format: Ape & mp3 (320k/s) & Flac
   Size: 237 MB & 107 MB (scans) & 258 MB
   Time: 49:15

The 1989 Gerry Mulligan Quartet (with pianist Bill Charlap, bassist Dean Johnson and drummer Richie De Rosa) is well featured on this enjoyable set, performing "Splendor in the Grass" and nine recent Gerry Mulligan compositions including "Lonesome Boulevard," "The Flying Scotsman" and "Good Neighbor Thelonious." Baritonist Mulligan deserves great credit for the consistency of his recordings during the previous 40 years. This CD is easily recommended for the leader remained very much in his prime.

Lennie Niehaus - I Swing for You
Artist: Lennie Niehaus
Album: I Swing for You
Label: EmArCy
Год/Year: 1957
Стиль/Style: Jazz
Качество/Quality: APE + cover
Размер/Size: 202 MB

Lennie Niehaus clearly shows in this album, there are an abundance of fascinating possibilities open to a flexibly two-faced middle-sized band. he nine man brought together by Lennie for this session were all playing in Stan Kenton's band at this time. Some of them were old, established hands in the world of jazz - Bill Perkins, who is heard both flute and tenor saxophone, pianist Lou Levy, bassist Red Kelly and, of course, Lennie himself. The name of trumpeter Ed Leddy is beginning to mean something to jazz followers but baritone saxophonist Steve Perlow, bass trumpeter Ken Shroyer and drummer Jerry McKenzie are just standing on the threshold of their jazz careers.

In this mixture there is a possible clue to success for a group which would like to have the merits of both the combo and the big band. The protocol that requires the allotments of equal solo space to a spate of stars doesn't come up in a situation such as this. The major solo space is assigned to leader Niehaus and to featured performer Perkins. There are brief solo spots for the others but there is no showboating.Their solos are all a logical part of a larger whole, accents in an overall pattern which flows compellingly from easy, relaxed intimacy to the potent force of a cleverly massed ensemble. Erroll Garner Plays Gershwin and Kern Swing, BeBop
Erroll Garner Plays Gershwin and Kern
Artist: Erroll Garner
Album: Plays Gershwin and Kern
Label: Emarcy
Release Date: Aug 5, 1964-Feb 5, 1968
Size: 82 Mb
Quality: mp3, 320 kb/s

Both music makers - George Gershwin and Jerome Kern, had endless capabilities for creating melodies of unforgettable beauty and timeless elegance. Erroll Garner's perfectly executed piano performances of these classic tunes speak of the love and dedication he had on his craft.

Jimmy Rowles calls Erroll Garner "Ork," which is short for orchestra and that is what Garner is to pianist Rowles - an entire orchestra all by himself. The media people described him as "the man for whom the piano was invented."

Beverly Kenney - Sings For Playboys (1958)
Artist: Beverly Kenney
Album: Sings For Playboys
Year: 1957, 1958
Label: Decca
Time: 35:00
Quality: mp3 320Kbps
Size: 83,17 Mb

Beverly Kenney had a tragically brief life, committing suicide in 1960 when she was just 28, probably over a broken love affair. A subtle improviser with a haunting voice and a real skill for interpreting lyrics, she had six albums released during her lifetime. Sings for Playboys, despite its lightweight title, is one of her finest efforts. Accompanied by just pianist Ellis Larkins (who doubles on celeste) and bassist Joe Benjamin, Kenney digs into a dozen songs, only five of which could qualify as standards. (By Scott Yanow)

REPOST! Abdullah Ibrahim - a South African pianist and composer, was born today, 9 October 1934. Happy Birthday!
