Artist: Archie Shepp Album: Day Dream Format: Ape & mp3 (320k/s) Size: 186 & 83 MB (scans) Label: Denon Total playing: 37:35 This is an excellent record of Archie Shepp. The album records 6 splendid songs . In particular, Duke Ellington's cover "Day Dream" is very cool modern jazz. Shepp's Day Dream is a personal favorite of mine with an entire Ellington program and Shepp at his most lyrical. And he signed this front cover himself... |

Artist: Hank Mobley Album: Hank Mobley Quintet (RVG) Recording Date:1957(Rem.2008 RVG) Label:Blue Note Genre:Jazz Format:Flac Size:190+147Mb Советую прослушать, это интересно. Review Tenor saxophonist Hank Mobley has been called underrated so many times that the word may as well have been his middle name, and when combined with the numerous financial, personal, and health issues the saxophonist endured during his career, it all added up to a middle of the pack position in the jazz canon. He truly deserves a reevaluation. This delightfully warm set was cut on March 8, 1957 with Mobley on tenor sax, Art Farmer on trumpet, Horace Silver on piano, Doug Watkins on bass, and the energetic and busy Art Blakey on drums, which makes for a pretty nice session band when all is said and done. All eight selections (two are bonus tracks, alternate versions of "Funk in Deep Freeze" and "Wham and They're Off") are original Mobley compositions and show off his — you guessed it — underrated writing and arranging ability.... by~ Steve Leggett, All Music Guide... |

The Rosenberg Trio : Live in Samois (2003) |

Artist: The Rosenberg Trio Album: Live in Samois, Tribute to Django Reinhardt Original Release Date: November 18, 2003 Label:Universal Music Quality:mp3 320Kbps Size:61mb+54mb Весело! Ярко! Виртуозно! Любителям гитары. On the 'Live in Samois' recording, The Rosenberg Trio once again proves their pre-eminence as the world's greatest gypsy swing guitar ensemble. From the opening bars of the standard "Rose Room", the group establishes a comfort zone by presenting this standard with all its melodic beauty. But then some forty seconds later something remarkable happens. Lead guitarist Stochelo Rosenberg begins to take this old reliable jazz number off the ground and it never again lands until the final chords fade away. This first tune is only a hint of what is to follow. With varying degrees of speed, nuance, playfulness and poignancy Rosenberg, his brother Nonnie (bass) and his cousin Nous'che (rhythm guitar) simply dazzle. Lead lines of a complexity and speed that would take other gifted guitarists a week to master erupt out of Stochelo only to be followed by others even more sensitive or intricate. Behind these brilliant lead treatments the sixteen tunes come to life and their pulse is provided by a flawless rhythm section--Nous'che plays harder and faster than any other rhythm player you'll find out there today and Nonnie's remarkably nimble backbeat on upright bass at times matches his brother's soloing note-for-note. As an introduction to the Rosenberg Trio, this CD is unsurpassed (its resultant DVD allows many amazed listeners the chance to see that there is actually only one bass and only two guitars playing--because it always sounds like more). However, this CD is not for the faint of ear: there is more music played in this hour than many other artists play in a year. 'Live in Samois' is a tasteful and wonderous concert for fans of the Django Reinhardt--Hot Club of France style of jazz. The late master himself would love the treatment given to seven of his own tunes. Highly recommended, if at least only as an example of how a guitar can be shown off as an instrument equal to any other in the world. After the final strains of the encore number "It Don't Mean a Thing" pass into memory, one is reminded that Stochelo Rosenberg at the time of this recording was only 35 years old, and a brighter future for a musician is rarely so evident. He is undoubtedly one of the finest guitarists in the world, and arguably may already be the best. You decide. Pick any of the tunes from this CD and it will become obvious. And if you're already a guitarist, I defy you to keep your hands and feet still. Enjoy! ~ Lord Grenville (Canada) |

Thelonious Monk - 5 By Monk By 5 (1959) |

Artist: Thelonious Monk Album: 5 By Monk By 5 Label: Riverside Year: 1959 Quality: mp3/ 320 kb/s Size: 135 mb Thelonious Monk - one of the most important musicians in jazz - was born today - October 10The concept of the album consists of five Monk originals performed in a quintet setting. Ironically, this was the first time that Monk had recorded with a lineup that so prominently featured the "standard" bop rhythm section incorporating both a trumpet (or, in this case, cornet) and sax player. This album documents the first studio performance of Charlie Rouse with Thelonious Monk (he'd also had a role earlier in the year--1959--in Monk's Town Hall concert). It is also notable for the inclusion of the cornetist Thad Jones, who is still perhaps better known as a composer & bandleader, but who was also a fine soloist. |

Jack McDuff Featuring Kenny Burrell - Crash! (1963) |

Artist: Jack McDuffAlbum: Crash!Label: Prestige Year: 1963, release 1994, 1995 Genre: Hard Bop Format, bitrate: mp3, 320 kb/s Time: 76:23 Size: 178 mB Organist Jack McDuff has long had a powerful style and the two former LPs that are combined on this single CD offer some strong examples of his accessible playing. In both cases McDuff is joined by guitarist Kenny Burrell (in fact one of the two sets was originally under Burrell's name), drummer Joe Dukes and occasionally Ray Barretto on congas. In addition Harold Vick is on tenor for most selections and Eric Dixon guests on tenor and flute during three songs. Highlights include a driving "How High the Moon," "Love Walked In" and a pair of original blues: "Smut" and "Our Miss Brooks." McDuff and Burrell work together quite well. This 76-minute CD is easily recommended to fans of the jazz organ. ~ Scott Yanow, AMG |
