Archie Shepp - Horace Parlan Goin' Home (1977) |

Artists: Archie Shepp , Horace Parlan Album: Goin' Home Год/Year:1977 Стиль/Style: Jazz Страна/Country:USA, SteepleChase Качество/Quality: APE + cover Размер/Size: 131 MB Total time: 50:51 Archie Shepp's two duet albums with pianist Horace Parlan on SteepleChase (the other one is 1980's Trouble in Mind) both find the innovative avant-garde tenor in relaxed and melodic form, respectfully interpreting music of the 1920s and before. Goin' Home features Shepp (who doubles on soprano) and Parlan playing tasteful versions of nine ancient black folk melodies including "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot," "Nobody Knows the Troubles I've Seen" and "Deep River." Those listeners only familiar with Shepp's earlier Fire Music will find these compelling performances to be a revelation. ~ Scott Yanow, AMG |

Artist: Art Tatum Album: God Is In The House Year: 1940-1941 Original Release: 1973 (Onyx Records) Release: 1998 Label: Highnote Records Format, bitrate: MP3, 320 kbps Time: 54:03 Size: 106 MB All Music Guide Rating: REPOST! Happy Birthday, dear Art! Your talant will never be forgotten... Thank you! A compilation of live performances played by genius in the early 1940's, digged out in the outstanding Jerry Newman collection of acetate discs, which are fortunately in better technical quality than most of the music from Newman's archives. On this disc you will find three piano solos performed by Art, other compositions with splendid accompaniment (drums, vocalist, trumpet and bassist-vocalist). Besides, for the first time and only here you can here great Tatum singing - the two unique recordings. This series is dedicated to the memory of Jerry Newman and the musicians he recorded. This 1998 HighNote CD reissues a long-out-of-print Art Tatum LP that was put out by the defunct Onyx label in 1973. The live performances are from the Jerry Newman collection of acetate discs and are fortunately in better technical quality than most of the music from Newman's archives. The remarkable Art Tatum is heard playing three brief, unaccompanied piano solos in 1940, three other numbers in which he is accompanied by Reuben Harris (beating out some quiet rhythms with whiskbrooms on a suitcase), and four duets with bassist-vocalist Chocolate Williams; Tatum has a brief vocal on "Knockin' Myself Out" and a more extensive one on "Toledo Blues," the only times he ever sang on record. In addition, Tatum and Williams back Ollie Potter (a pretty good if completely unknown singer) on "There'll Be Some Changes Made." Best of all are a pair of exciting trio numbers ("Lady Be Good" and a very memorable "Sweet Georgia Brown") in which Tatum stretches out with bassist Ebenezer Paul and the great, underrated trumpeter Frankie Newton. It is fascinating to hear Newton's playing on "Sweet Georgia Brown," which is fairly simple and calm, while Tatum sounds like a volcano behind him. Highly recommended. Scott Yanow, AMG |

Gershwin Plays Gershwin: The Piano Rolls (1993) |

Artist: George Gershwin Album: Gershwin Plays Gershwin: The Piano Rolls Label: Nonesuch Year: 1993 Genre: Jazz Format, bitrate: MP3@320 kbps Time: 60:39 Size: 84.4 Mb George Gershwin made 130 piano rolls between 1916-1927; 28 were recorded and released in 1998 on two Nonesuch CDs. This particular release has quite a few obscure Gershwin songs, including his very first tune, "When You Want 'Em, You Can't Get 'Em, When You've Got 'Em, You Don't Want 'Em." Certainly such tunes as "Novelette in Fourths," "So Am I," and "Idle Dreams" are long forgotten but worth reviving. Among the other highlights of the fascinating and highly enjoyable recital are "Sweet and Lowdown," "Swanee" and a 14-minute rendition of "Rhapsody in Blue." The 1933 item is a bit unusual, for it is a two-piano rendition of "An American in Paris" that lasts over 16 minutes and was arranged by Frank Milne. Well worth exploring. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide REPOST with new links. |

Artist: Benny Golson Album: I Remember Miles Label: Evidence Music Inc Year: rec. Oct 5, 1992,Oct 6, 1992/rel. 1996 Format: MP 3 @ 320 Kb/s Time: 63:55 Size: 95.3 + 39.8 Mb

Artists: Lee Konitz, Steve Swallow, Paul Motian Album: Three Guys Label: Enja Records Year: 1999 Genre: Jazz Format, bitrate: mp3@320Kbps Time: 50:44 min Size: 122 Mb Добротно.
Lee Konitz, Steve Swallow, and Paul Motian are not merely three talented musicians. They are three uniquely creative instrumentalists who have made their own signature statements on their respective axes and invented singular voices in the process. When the three came together on the subtly titled THREE GUYS, a veritable maelstrom of unbridled creativity ensued.
Konitz's peculiar wail, Swallow's supple, snaking lines, and Motian's impressionistic colors mesh into a liquid sound that captures the listener's attention immediately. They are at once smooth and jarring on readings of the standard "Come Rain or Come Shine" or Jobim's "Luiza." The trio bends and stretches the possibilities of group improvisation on markedly ingenious original creations like Motian's "From Time to Time," which features the composer in an explosive opening solo. Swallow's compelling swinger "Ladies' Waders" is a delightful romp that rings uncannily familiar in its approach to tradition. Finally, Konitz's closing "A Minor Blues In F," despite its simple title, is a masterful piece that finds the trio marking a new level in creative collaboration. |

Total time - 36:18

Это одни из самых ранних записей этого виртуознейшего пианиста!
This is undoubtedly one of the greatest jazz albums out there. The pure genuis of Tatum is simply astounding. Although Tatum plays almost all standards on this album, he plays them in his own woderfully complex and creative style in a manner that makes his versions unbeatable. Anyone who thinks that Monk was the greatest jazz piano player of all time better pick this up and go to school.
His version of "Tea For Two" is still considered to be the standard by which all versions are measured by. "Tiger Rag" is played so unbelievably fast and complex that it sounds like there are three pianists playing at the same time! Every song on this album is a gem so pick this one up A.S.A.P. You will not be disappointed.

The presence of saxophone on the tracks : "Carupano", "Doce Cascabeles", "El Manicero" (sung by chivirico davila) gave the record his success. Chivirico sang "La verdad" accompanied of Leo Gonzalez (Venezuelan singer) and Bobby Cruz with the backsingers. "Mama Calunga" is marked by the influence of Bobby Cruz. "Acere Voz Quiere" is a bomba with jala jala. "Te Vas" un bolero. The rarest second album of the venezuelan player "Johnny Sedes & his orchestra", including the killer latin dancefloor track "Carupano". United Future Organization - United Future Organization (1993) |

Artist: United Future OrganizationAlbum: United Future OrganizationFormat: Ape & mp3 (320k/s) Size: 286 & 105 MB (scans) Label: Brownswood Total playing: 47:33 Genre: acid jazz For one of the most consistently inventive groups in mix culture, United Future Organization's debut falls way too close to the aural wallpaper zone. The influences -- cool jazz, light funk, and Brazilian percussion -- stand out as separate entities rather than meld together, and the rhythms are usually surprisingly static for a group predicated on making dancefloor denizens move. "The Sixth Sense" and "L.O.V.E" are dragged down by dull drumming before the Brazilian "Upa Neguinho" injects a bit of rhythm life. The songs centered around samples of beat icon Jack Kerouac and vocal jazzhero Jon Hendricks fare well, but elsewhere the repetition too often is just boring rather than pulling you into a groove. Only the Parisian cabaret accordion and Monday Michiru's vocals on "My Foolish Dream" and the breakout finale, "Off Road," really register strongly. United Future Organization is still obviously fitting the pieces of their sonic puzzle together and it shows in the timid, tentative mix as much as the music. From the evidence here, you wouldn't have expected the group to be capable of the quantam leap to No Sound Is Too Taboo -- but United Future Organization did just that. ~ Don Snowden, AMG |

Artist: Nnena FreelonAlbum: HeritageFormat: Ape & mp3 (320k/s) Size: 371 & 155 MB (scans) Label: Sony Total playing: 70:04 A major improvement on her debut (which found Nnenna Freelon overly influenced by Sarah Vaughan), the singer's second effort has many highpoints including outstanding versions of "'Tis Autumn," Duke Ellington's "Heritage" (a challenging and very personal song), "Prelude to a Kiss" and "Comes Love." Backed by a superior rhythm seciton and occasional horns, Freelon (even if this set bogs down a bit near the end due to too many ballads) is quite expressive, relaxed and consistently creative. This is a very impressive effort from one of the most promising jazz vocalists of the 1990s. ~ Scott Yanow, AMG |

David Gilmore - Ritualism (2001) |
Post-bop, Modern Jazz |
 |
 |
Artist: David Gilmore Album: Ritualism Label: Kashka Music Release Date: 2001 Quality: mp3, 256 kb/s Size: 129 mb After years of sideman work with Steve Coleman, Don Byron, and many others, guitarist David Gilmore makes a bold and beautiful statement with his long-awaited solo debut, Ritualism. His writing is highly advanced and richly varied, and while his production aesthetic stresses the live immediacy of acoustic jazz, the tracks groove with a fusion-like urgency. Bursting with odd-metered exchanges, ultra-complex unison figures, and virtuosic solo flights, the music comes across as a best-of-all-worlds synthesis of every influence Gilmore has absorbed. As debut albums go, Ritualism is uncommonly focused, achieving an ideal balance of technical sophistication and emotional depth. |

Artist - Mary Lou Williams Album - I Made You Love Paris Genre - swing, bop Label - EmArCy/Universal Year - 1954, release - 2000 Quality - MP3@320kb/s Size - 123mb REPOST Mary Lou Williams spent a fair amount of time in Europe in the early '50s, prior to a temporary hiatus from jazz. This CD from Verve's Jazz in Paris series compiles two separate sessions from 1954; one features a trio, a quintet, and a pair of vocals by blues singer Beryl Bryden, and the other is purely a trio. All of the selections are fairly brief, with only one running over three-and-a-half minutes. The first 11 songs are a bit of a mixed bag. The strongest tracks feature Williams alone ("I Made You Love Paris" and her "Club Francais Blues") or with her trio ("Avalon," "Swingin' for the Guys," and "Memories of You"). Weaker are the four tracks with trumpeter Nelson Williams and tenor saxophonist Ray Lawrence, who aren't up to the playing level of horn players who typically worked with the pianist, though bassist Buddy Banks somewhat makes up for their shortcomings by contributing an enjoyable original ("Leg'n Lou") and a strong solo. Least important is the pair of vocals by Bryden, including a cover of bluesman Piano Red's "Rock Me" and Trixie Smith's "Freight Train Blues." The eight tracks from the other session are more consistent. With Banks again in tow and drummer Jean-Louis Viale, Williams sounds more relaxed and less encumbered during a set that is heavily weighted with standards like "There's a Small Hotel," "Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea," "Lover," and "Autumn in New York." An obscure, oddly constructed blues by the pianist, "Nicole," is also well worth hearing. This is hardly among the best recordings from Williams' long career, but with a paucity of CD reissues of her work, it still merits purchasing. ~ Ken Dryden, All Music Guide |
