Barney Kessel, Shelly Manne, Ray Brown - Exploring the Scene
Artists: Barney Kessel, Shelly Manne, Ray Brown
Album: Exploring the Scene
YEar: 1960
Label: Contemporary
Size: 94 mb
Quality: mp3, 320 kb/s

Barney Kessel - one of the greatest guitarists of all time was born today - October 17!

Guitarist Barney Kessel, bassist Ray Brown and drummer Shelly Manne were the people's choice on their instruments in the late 1950s. Since they had recorded together in the past (with a variety of frontmen), it was only natural that they try to reap the financial rewards of their popularity by forming the Poll Winners Trio.
What separate this guitar /doublebass/ drums trio from trios of the same category are two things. Fantasy and fun. Fantasy because these three giants approach every tune with a different mind, contributing with fresh harmonic, melodic and moreover rythmical ideas, so the tune still if it is a well known standard finds new life. Few guitar based trios have the ability to sound fresh and inventive. The guitar has some idiosyncrasis which make it difficult for the guitarist to be interesting as a band leader. The second is fun. Jazz surely should be deep musically but it should be funny too. These guys never forget this rule. They create interest, they are always ironic, and more than anything else they don't ever forget to swing hard. A special mention should be done to Barney because he has in the trio format, the greatest weight to carry.
Kálmán Balogh & The Gipsy Cimbalom Band (1997) Music » Jazz » Fusion
Kálmán Balogh & The Gipsy Cimbalom Band (1997)   Artist: Kálmán Balogh and The Gipsy Cimbalom Band
Album: Kálmán Balogh and The Gipsy Cimbalom Band
   Format: FLAC & mp3 320k/s
   Size: 384 & 177 MB (scans)
   Label: Privat Issue
   Total playing: 53:49

Kalman Balogh is one the foremost Hungarian players of the cimbalom, a type of hammer dulcimer played with mallets like a vibraphone. Gypsy jazz continues a fabled European musical tradition harking back to the collaboration of masters such as gypsy guitarist Django Reinhardt and violinist Stephane Grappelli, connecting the ancient folk music traditions to Central and Eastern Europe with the chord progressions and swing of jazz. Balogh's cimbalom becomes a new and compelling voice centering a band that also includes acoustic bass, acoustic guitar, trumpet and violins.- from the rounder records group's website

Cybill Shepherd is a one-of-a-kind steel magnolia, a Southern beauty queen who looks soft as a flower petal but who in reality is anything but soft on the inside. Her patrician looks and bombshell figure generated modeling and acting careers while her saucy attitude and flair for comedy won fans for her as well. Most interesting of all, behind the beautiful faзade is a woman with brains and talent. She always spoke her mind, as evidenced by a tell-all memoir in 2000 in which she didn't hesitate to spill the beans and name which male co-star failed to finish a horizontal tango, which one tangoed too fast, and who was best equipped for the encounter. In addition to modeling, acting, writing, and producing, Shepherd also sings. She has released seven albums and has performed live in cabarets and other nightspots in Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, and London.

The Four Freshmen уже 60 лет. Jazz Times Readers poll в 2007 г. вновь назвал ансамбль лучшей джазовой вокальной группой.

One of the most influential vocal groups of the 1950s, The Four Freshmen pioneered a revolutionary new style of close-harmony vocals that set the stage for bands like the Beach Boys, Spanky & Our Gang, the Manhattan Transfer and countless others.
