1961: Armstrong & Brubeck - The Real Ambassadors |

Artists: Louis Armstrong, Dave Brubeck, Lambert Hendricks & Ross, Carmen McRae Album: The Real Ambassadors Label: Columbia Year: 1961 Format, bitrate: MP3 192 - 320 Kbps Size: 99,9 MB Time: 0.53:88 Просто взгляните на исполнителей и немедленно слушайте! REPOST In 1961, Dave Brubeck put together a remarkable musical show. Using the talents of Louis Armstrong and his All-Stars, Carmen McRae, the innovative bop vocal group Lambert, Hendricks And Ross, and his own rhythm section, Brubeck and his wife, lyricist Iola, wrote a largely upbeat play full of anti-racism songs and tunes that celebrated human understanding. Although it had only one live performance (at the 1962 Monterey Jazz Festival), The Real Ambassadors was recorded for posterity and now, with its reissue on CD, the original 15 selections have been augmented by five more. It is important to listen to this music without prior expectations because Paul Desmond is nowhere to be found, Louis Armstrong does not play that much trumpet here, and Lambert, Hendricks And Ross essentially function as background singers. However Satch and Carmen McRae make for a very potent team, and there are many touching and surprising moments. ~ Scott Yanow, AMG |

George Thorogood - 30th Anniversary Tour: Live In Europe (2004) |

Artist: George Thorogood & The Destroyers Album: 30th Anniversary Tour: Live In Europe Label: Eagle Year: 2004 Genre: Blues, Blues Rock, Boogie Tracks: 13 Format: FLAC 8 Size: 5 x 97 MB + 1 x 90 MB Recorded on May 4, 2004, at the Royal Concert Hall in Nottingham, England, George Thorogood & the Destroyers sound as spirited and enthusiastic as they did 30 years ago playing bars in their Delaware hometown. While some naysayers might call the track listing repetitive, they obviously miss the point of Thorogood's live gigs to begin with. Hardcore Thorogood fans will wonder what happened to certain staples like "Move It On Over" or "I'm Wanted," but basically all of the tried and true showstoppers are included: "Bad to the Bone," John Lee Hooker's "One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer," Bo Diddley's "Who Do You Love," and "I Drink Alone." George Thorogood & the Destroyers' 30th Anniversary Tour: Live is raucous, fun, and passionate, finding both band and audience having a great time. |

Drummer Bobby Durham — who had played with Peterson's band from 1967-1970 — augments the lineup, making this nothing less than a stellar quartet. For the first time, the four albums taped on these nights have been issued together and they include The Legendary Oscar Peterson Trio Live at the Blue Note, Saturday Night at the Blue Note, Last Call at the Blue Note, and Encore at the Blue Note. |

Kid Ory - Creole Classics (1944-1947) |

Artist: Kid Ory Album: Creole Classics Label: Naxos Jazz Legends Year: 1944-1947 Release: 2001 Genre: Jazz Format, bitrate: mp3, 320kb/s Time: 53:58 Size: 114MB This is all classic Kid Ory, plenty of ensemble work, no solos at all from the leader. Most tracks have Mutt Carey, a long time Ory sideman on Trumpet. Omer Simeon, Joe Darensberg, Darnell Howard and Barney Bigard share the Clarinet chores. Buster Wilson is on Piano throughout as is Ed Garland on Bass. This really is classic New Orleans (and without the Banjo), Ory had a unique style of playing, his ensemble work is very punchy and full of glissandos and growls, but his playing induced all his bands to swing. He did not see the trombone as a solo instrument. If you want to get a feel for this style of playing, try Tiger Rag, it’s a classic and great fun. It is interesting that these recordings were made between 1944 and 1947, but the tunes are performed by every local trad. Band, up and down the UK, on a weekly basis. They must have something to have lasted so long, I suspect that most have strong melodies and they make for happy sounding performances. It was probably Jack Teagarden, who was most influential in giving the Trombone equal status with the Trumpet and Clarinet as far as solos were concerned. Those that follow are expected to fill both rolls, the punchy rhythmic playing of Ory and the fine tone and construction of Teagarden. Ory started out in New Orleans in the times the music was still in its infancy, but moved to the West Coast for health reasons and then on to Hawaii to retire in 1966. He continued to play up to his 85th birthday or thereabouts! Once again Naxos have done a wonderful job of cleaning up these performances and I’m sure this release will be welcomed by people with catholic tastes in jazz and of course by the ‘back to the delta men’ as they wear their sandals in the winter! ~ Don Mather |

Tony Bennett - I Wanna Be Around (1963) |

 |
Artist: Tony Bennett Album: I Wanna Be Around Label: Columbia Year: 1963 Genre: Vocal Jazz, Crooning Format, bitrate: MP3, CBR 320 kbps Size: 70 Mb As the studio album follow-up to Tony Bennett's breakthrough record, I Left My Heart In San Francisco, I Wanna Be Around had a lot to live up to, but since San Francisco was a culmination of Bennett's development, not a fluke, I Wanna Be Around turned out to be almost on a par with its predecessor. "The Good Life" and "I Wanna Be Around" became Top 20 hits, showing that Bennett had somehow found a line into good new pop material, and there were also some excellent arrangements, courtesy of Marty Manning, including a percussion-and-flute reading of "Let's Face The Music And Dance" that echoed the Beat Of My Heart album and a nod to the South American trend with Antonio Carlos Jobim's "Quiet Nights (Corcovado)." A worthy successor. ~ William Ruhlmann, All Music Guide |

Ted Curson – Tears For Dolphy (1964) |
Jazz, Hard-bop, Avantgarde |
 |
 |
Artist: Ted Curson Album: Tears For Dolphy Label: Black Lion Year: 1964 Genre: Jazz Format: FLAC Size: 344MB Time: 61:24 Although the term "avant-garde" is used several times in the liner notes, this quartet outing by trumpeter Ted Curson, tenor saxophonist Bill Barron, bassist Herb Bushler and drummer Dick Berk actually falls between hard bop and free bop. Curson and Barron in particular made for a potent team and their interplay on nine originals (five by Curson, four by Barron) is quite impressive, swinging and occasionally witty. This CD reissue brings back the entire Tears for Dolphy album plus three of the six songs from the Flip Top LP, all recorded the same day. Although the title cut does not live up to its potential, such tunes as "Kassim," "7/4 Funny Time," "Quicksand" and "Searchin' for the Blues" manage to be both explorative and surprisingly accessible. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide |
