Fourth World consists of Airto Moreira, Flora Purim, Jose Neto and through the years has had a great deal of other musicians contributing. Of course, Flora Purim and Airto Moreira are no strangers to Brazilian music, jazz and fusion as they've been around (same with Fourth World's other musicians and Jose Neto) for ages. But this album, Last Journey, was a pretty special recording that is loaded with emotions and is one of my all-time favorites. In this cd you can actually feel how much they believe in the music they're playing and singing - particularly in Light As a Feather and Silvia.

     Year: 1973
     Genre: Bossa Nova

By 1972, Antonio Carlos Jobim had enjoyed more than a decade of tremendous success as a songwriter with songs like "The Girl From Ipanema" and "Desafinado". The album he cut that year, titled simply Jobim, introduced another of his great standards, the beautiful "Aguas de Marco" ("Waters of March"). Singing it in both Portuguese and English, Jobim, who wrote the words as well as the music, constructs a surreal poem, to which his signature revolving melody builds jauntily and hypnotically to a finale. Other compositions firmly in the intimate style he had perfected include the love poem "Ana Luiza" and "Matita Pere", named after an elusive bird celebrated in Brazilian folklore.

Original recordings produced by Claus Ogerman. Recorded by Frank Laico. Supervised by Richard Seidel. Production managed by Bryan Koniarz. Research managed by Ben Young. Mastered by Margaret Goldfarb at Universal Music Studios-East. Tracks recorded on December 11-14, 1972 at Columbia Recording Studios, New York City.

Oscar Peterson - The Personal Touch
     Artist: Oscar Peterson
     Album: The Personal Touch
     Label: Pablo
     Year: 1980
Format, bitrate: Mp3, 256 kb/s vbr (vinyl rip)
     Time: 43:07
     Size: 65:02

This is a somewhat unusual Oscar Peterson record in a number of ways. Peterson (along with flugelhornist Clark Terry, bassist Dave Young, drummer Jerry Fuller and either Peter Leitch or Ed Bickert on guitar) performs 13 songs either written or popularized by Canadians. In addition he sings the majority of the tunes in his Nat King Cole-influenced voice and contributes two new songs of his own. The repertoire includes some familiar standards ("Some of These Days," "I'll Never Smile Again," "The World Is Waiting for the Sunrise" and "Sweethearts on Parade"), jazz versions of a few pop tunes (including "Spinning Wheel") and a few obscurities. - by Scott Yanow at All Music Guide

This somewhat obscure recording in the Oscar Peterson canon is one of those few joys that come along all to infrequently.
Here he backed with some of jazz great musicians, and many stars in their own right. No matter, here on this LP you hear Oscar Peterson sing, that's right he is a vocalist as well and a good one at that. If by chance you have not heard him sing, get this a pure joy. He is in rare form here. Perhaps not the greatest vocalist you will hear, but each not is truly heartfelt. Don't miss this rare opportunity.
This remains as shining example of his complete artistry

Depart - Mountain Messenger

     Artist: Depart
     Album: Mountain Messenger
     Label: ACT Music
     Year: 2008.
     Genre: Modern Jazz
     Format, bitrate: MP3 VBR ~260kbps
     Time: 57:01
     Size: 107MB

On Mountain Messenger, as on Reloaded before it, Depart play a raucous, hard rocking and even harder swinging, open-ended collision of blues, R&B, hard bop and free improv, propelled by Kanzig's murderous ostinatos and Mayer's explosive post-rock beats (and leavened by the occasional ballad and re-arranged Swiss yodel song).
It's refreshingly hard to categorize the music on Mountain Messenger. But it's undeniably affective and exciting stuff, and practically guaranteed to raise both a smile and your feet.

He also played on 'Sketches of Spain', 'Someday My Prince will Come', 'Live at Carnegie Hall', 'Live at the Blackhawk', 'Porgy and Bess', and many other landmark Miles Davis recordings.
On 'Cobb's Corner' Cobb leads a stellar quartet made up of the brilliant trumpeter Roy Hargrove, pianist Ronnie Mathews and bassist Peter Washington. The programme mostly features a selection of standards including "You and the Night and the Music", "My Romance" and "Lotus Blossom".

Christian Scott is an American jazz musician from New Orleans, Louisiana. His debut, Rewind That, was nominated for a Grammy. The second album, Anthem, was inspired by Hurricane Katrina's effect on New Orleans.
Scott’s music builds its tonal foundation off of Matt Stevens’ guitar riffs, which could easily find their place in a contemporary rock setting. His rhythm section, consisting of brothers Zaccai (piano/keyboard) and Luques (bass) Curtis and sensational drummer Thomas Pridgen, grooves under each piece. Scott’s horn parts are those of traditional jazz melody, and the solos follow suit in the jazz tradition.

Scott has noted Miles Davis, among his many musical influences, as being the greatest of them all. A listener can hear that sometimes-sparse, calculated note choice Miles used in Christian’s trumpet solos. Scott’s approach to the music is both seasoned and unique, as he incorporates a certain breathing technique to achieve the tone that resounds through his work. Without question, Christian Scott will be an important player in the evolution of jazz. ~ Last.FM
