Taj Mahal - Mumtaz Mahal (1995)
Artist: Taj Mahal
Album: Mumtaz Mahal
Format: Flac & mp3 (320k/s)
Size: 183 & 103 MB (scans)
Label: Water Lily Acoustics
Total time: 44:07
Genre: blues, world fusion

Taj Mahal is joined by Indian master musicians N. Ravikiran and V.M. Bhatt on a selection of tunes that ultimately owe more to obvious blues clichés than they do to cross-cultural collaboration. Perhaps that's because nearly half of the album's tunes -- including Robert Johnson's "Come on in My Kitchen," "Mary Don't You Weep," and "Johnny Too Bad" -- have long been staples of Taj Mahal's concert catalog. This isn't to say that the set doesn't have any moments of inspired improvisation and nuanced playing; there are a few instances of brilliance. But that seems a terrible waste of the talent gathered, unless the listener is looking for nothing more than an unlikely blues workout. ~ Brian Beatty, AMG

Jeri Southern - You'd Better Go Now (1956)
     Artist: Jeri Southern
     Album: You'd Better Go Now
     Label: DECCA
Year: Original Release 1956; CD 2007
     Time: 33 min
     Format, bitrate: mp3 320 kbps
     Size: 78 MB

After signing to Decca in 1951, her first hit, "You Better Go Now," established her style -- lyrically focused, somewhat desultory, and definitely lovesick, the style of singing often called (for better or worse) torch songs. Her decidedly unflashy voice lent additional weight to the lyrical concerns of other Southern favorites like "I Don't Know Where to Turn," "Ev'ry Time We Say Goodbye," "Someone to Watch Over Me" and "If I Had You." She also had a moderate hit in 1954 with "Joey" and toured with the Birdland Jazz Stars of 1957. Southern's LPs of the '50s for Decca utilized mostly small groups in an era of large orchestras, including top-flight jazz-pop names like Ralph Burns, Dave Barbour and Marty Paich.

Johnny Smith(Roost 2216)-"The New Quartet"-LP. This vintage Jazz LP was released in 1956 on the rare Roost label. The LP features Johnny Smith,Johnny Rae,John Lee and George Roumanis.Tracks include-It Never Entered My Mind,Samba,Black is The Color Of My True Loves Hair,Pawn Ticket,S Wonderful,You'd Be So Nice To Come Home To,Blue Lights,Montage,Bag's Groove,Round About Midnight.Guitarist Johnny Smith will always be best remembered for his 1952 hit recording of "Moonlight in Vermont," a mellow ballad that also features Stan Getz. Smith, whose chordal-oriented style is self-taught, originally played trumpet, violin, and viola before switching to guitar. A studio musician from 1947 on, Smith's impressive technique and quiet sound made him in great demand even before "Moonlight" and, although he never had another hit, he was a popular attraction throughout the 1950s. After moving to Colorado in the 1960s he opened a music store, taught, and maintained a lower profile, occasionally recording in New York.

Keely Smith & Louis Prima - Twist With Keely Smith / Doin' The Twist With Louis Prima

     Genre: Vocal
     Format, bitrate: mp3 320 kbps
     Time: 56:00
     Size: 121 MB

This danceable CD is a re-issue from Jasmine Records from 1962. Originally released as two separate LP's on Dot Records, these two albums feature Keely backed by H.B. Barnum and his Combo and Louis with Sam and the Witnesses. These albums are from the period shortly after their divorce and Louis' return to Capitol Records. Keely does well on her own, and the band behind her serves better than Nelson Riddle or Billy May strictly for the type of music she's singing. Her voice sounds particularly young and delectable, as she sings some very familiar songs such as "Let's Twist Again," "The Twist," and "Shout!" These songs are all fun, but short, and not typical of Keely. Louis, Sam and the boys tear into some of the same songs, but Louis also does a vocal version of "The Glow-Worm" and "Route 66." It comes as no surprise that Irving Berlin's "Marie" is almost unrecognisable with the exception of the lyrics.. but as always, Louis works his charm, and does just fine without Keely. If you dig the band and are a collector, this CD is for you. The same goes for folks who are looking to twist.

Julian Sas - Wandering Between Worlds (2009)
     Artist: Julian Sas Band
     Album: Wandering between worlds
     Label: Corazong
     Year: 2009
Quality: mp3@320 kbps + all covers
     Size: 258 mb

If you like your blues to be electric, raw, gritty and totally rockin' then look no further than Julian Sas for your daily dose of medicinal blues!  This massive package offers nearly two hours of contemporary live blues rammed with stunning musicianship and near-tangible passion for the form.
Hailing from the Netherlands, guitar virtuoso bluesman Julian Sas gives it just as it should be; live, warts'n'all (not that there are any 'warts' here), totally grounded and honest. The Sas band comprises Sas (guitars and vocals), Tenny Tahamata (bass) and Rob Heijne (drums), a fairly traditional sounding line-up, a no-frills three-piece. But wow, how they lay it down!! Relatively sparsely populated by today's standards but with an edge that belies their number, Sas and his 'chums' make it happen and keep it nicely real.

Tommy Flanagan - Jazz Poet (1989)
     Artist: Tommy Flanagan
     Album: Jazz Poet
     Label: Timeless Holland
Year: Original Release Date: January 17, 1989
     Genre: Jazz
     Format, bitrate: mp3 320kbps
     Time: 55:00
     Size: 127MB

By the time of this recording, pianist Tommy Flanagan had been performing for decades — mostly as a sideman — for a who's who of jazz: players such as Miles Davis, J.J. Johnson, and Sonny Rollins, to name a few. His perfect, yet unassuming style made him the pianist of choice for dozens of musicians. While he has recorded as a leader from time to time, this album may be the best representation of his work available. He performs a set of great tunes ("Caravan," "Willow Weep for Me," "St. Louis Blues," "Lament," and others) in a topflight trio, with George Mraz on bass and Kenny Washington on drums. Flanagan is at the peak of his powers. Never flashy, never showy, this is just outstanding music performed by a true master who is one of the great bop pianists of the 20th century.

David Benoit - Jazz For Peanuts (2008)
     Artist: David Benoit
     Album: Jazz For Peanuts
     Label: Peak Records
     Year: release Oct. 28th, 2008
     Genre: Jazz
     Format, bitrate: VBR ~ 192 kb/s
     Time: 40:34 minutes
     Size: 56.9 MB

Jazz pianist David Benoit has made no secret of his love for Charles Schultz's famous comic strip, Peanuts, and the piano music that accompanies its animated adaptations. Benoit added to the tours and appearances he's made as a tribute to Schultz, and to 2000's HERE'S TO YOU CHARLIE BROWN: 50 GREAT YEARS, by releasing CHARLIE BROWN TV THEMES, a nod to Vince Guaraldi, the composer of the original Peanuts piano music. Benoit adds some flair, mixing in jazz and classical influences in his own inimitable fashion.

Chances are good you've never heard of him. Yet, in his prime, Johnny Smith was responsible for a small treasure of extraordinary jazz, performed with some of the top players of the day. He even earned Down Beat's "Jazz Record of the Year" for a song on the very first session he led - "Moonlight in Vermont" with Stan Getz on saxophone that's become a classic.

Brian Setzer Orchestra - The Dirty Boogie (1998) Swing, Rock music
Brian Setzer Orchestra - The Dirty Boogie (1998)
     Artist: Brian Setzer Orchestra
     Album: The Dirty Boogie
     Label: Interscope Records
     Year: June 23, 1998
     Genre: Rockabilly, Retro-Swing
     Format, bitrate: 192 bps
     Size: 69 mb

Brian Setzer has spent much of his career revving up already hot retro styles to a booming pitch. While this generally worked in his early years with the rockabilly Stray Cats, it largely fails with his swing orchestra. Louis Prima--whose "Jump Jive an' Wail" is faithfully remade here--wasn't exactly the king of subtlety himself, but even he might have covered his ears at the blare produced by the combination of Setzer's (admittedly sharp) guitar playing and a too-bright horn section. A couple of The Dirty Boogie's cuts are cute ("You're the Boss," an Elvis Presley/Ann-Margret duet, is recast for Setzer and No Doubt frontwoman Gwen Stefani), but fans of the Cherry Poppin' Daddies and Big Bad Voodoo Daddy might think twice. --Rickey Wright

This is a rare Oscar Peterson recording edited on vinyl only and only in Japan.
No tracks from this LP can be found o any compilation (at least to my knowledge)
Oscar plays solo in complete form (he is humming along with his piano on most of the tunes)and this is one of the rare occasions to hear him sing vocal on ”I Wished On The Moon” and on "Too Marvelous For Words" - Bubu Hans

The Andrey Kondakov Quartet delivered an absolutely excellent, special, and diverse concert ranging from dynamic compositions in breathtaking tempos to soft, simple and elegant ones. And with lots of humour. From the very first seconds, these guys seemed to have decided that this was going to be nothing but great fun. Amund Sjolie Sveen
