Artist: Ravi Shankar Album: Ravi Shankar at The Woodstock Festival Label: Bgo - Beat Goes on Year: 1969 Release: 1994 Format, bitrate: mp3, 256 kb/s Time: 41:21 Size: 60,5 Mb WOODSTOCK - 40 YEARS ANNIVERSARY DAY ONE Like pretty much every performer at any Woodstock, this is not Ravi's best work. From the original, he entertained a lot of muddy, naked humans who cheered for him probably because it was the "groovy thing to do." Similar things have happened throughout his history; on "The Concert For Bangla Desh" he and his players received applause following a minute of twanings caused by tuning the Indian instruments. In those days, people wanted pop whether they admitted it or not. Something wonderful happened since then, however: pop got old. These days we have acts like Silverchair and the Goo Goo Dolls and so many imitators that it's hard to keep track of them all. Now we want a true original, which is exactly what Ravi is and always was. He wasn't always very accessible, but he was unmistakable. This effort is often quite monotonous and droning. Ravi is best taken slowly and in moderation, a single disc of just sitar, tablas and such may be a bit too hard to take. - Amazon.com |

Artist - Frank Sinatra with Quincy Jones and OrchestraAlbum - L.A. Is My Lady Label - Warner Bros. Year - 1984, release - 1992 Quality - MP3@320 kbps Size - 68,5 mb Total time - 34:18 Frank Sinatra's final studio album of the '80s arguably the last true original album Sinatra recorded was an uneven but surprisingly enjoyable set that tried to adapt the singer's style to contemporary pop standards. Under the direction of arranger/producer Quincy Jones, the album incorporated more synthesizers and slick production techniques than any previous Sinatra album, but the result usually doesn't sound forced, especially on the hit title song. When the album does fail, it is because Jones' overly ambitious and commercial production such as the insistent dance beat of "How Do You Keep the Music Playing" prevents the song from taking root. Nevertheless, everyone involved, from Sinatra and Jones to the band themselves, sounds like they're having fun, and that sense of joy effortlessly translates to the listener. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide |

Artists: Art Farmer with Frank Morgan Album: Central Avenue Reunion Label: Contemporary Year: 1989 Format, bitrate: mp3, 256 kbps Time: 62:00 Size: 55MB AMG Rating Three of the five musicians on this quintet date (flügelhornist Art Farmer, altoist Frank Morgan, and pianist Lou Levy) had played on Central Avenue in Los Angeles of the late '40s. Not all of the eight songs that they perform with bassist Eric Von Essen and drummer Albert "Tootie" Heath are from the era ("Blue Minor" and "Cool Struttin'" were written by Sonny Clark several years later), but the outing is very much in the bop style of the period. Their live set is highlighted by spirited versions of "Star Eyes," "Farmer's Market," "I Remember You," and "Donna Lee." This CD is filled with high-quality bebop that is easily recommended to straight-ahead jazz fans. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide |

Artist - Oscar Peterson Album - Live At CBC Studios Label - Just a Memory Year - 1960, release - 1997 Quality - MP3@320 kbps Size - 83 mb Total time - 36:09 AMG ràiting REPOST with new lin from Mr.Bubu Hans After recording a ton of music in 1959, the Oscar Peterson Trio only made one studio album in 1960 (The Music from Fiorello) and was not documented again until July 28, 1961. This 1997 CD has ten selections recorded for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation but not released commercially until decades later. Pianist Peterson, bassist Ray Brown and drummer Ed Thigpen, as usual, swing hard, with O.P. being the dominant force. Among the highlights of the predictably excellent program are Peterson's "Blues for Big Scotia," "My Heart Stood Still," "How About You," "Cookin' at the Continental" and "Dancing on the Ceiling." This tight trio was nothing if not consistent! ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide |

Herbie Mann - Reggae |

Artist: Herbie Mann Album: Reggae Label: Atlantic/Wounded Bird Year: 1974 Release: 1974 (LP); 2001 (CD) Format: Mpeg-4 224 kbps Time: 38:44 Size: 73.0 MB Despite its title, most of the music on this album is not actually reggae but a mixture of jazz, R&B and pop. Flutist Herbie Mann, guitarists Mick Taylor and Albert Lee and keyboardist Pat Rebillot combine with the eight-piece Tommy McCook band to create some spirited and danceable (if a bit dated) music. Together they jam on The Beatles' "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da," the traditional "Rivers of Babylon," Moe Koffman's old hit "Swingin' Shepherd Blues" and an 18-minute version of "My Girl." The results are fun if not all that substantial. ~ Scott Yanow, AMG |

Artist: Tim Hardin Album: Tim Hardin 1 Label: Verve Records Release: 1966 Format, bitrate: mp3, 320 kb/s Time: 27:37 Size: 66,5 Mb (cover) AMG Rating: WOODSTOCK - 40 YEARS ANNIVERSARY DAY ONE Tim Hardin's debut album was something of a happy accident, a killer record at least a third of which was comprised of tracks intended as demos, while another half utilized a string orchestra that the artist knew nothing about. Whatever its origins, Tim Hardin 1 is one of the most powerful and compelling records of its era, encompassing deeply personal and compelling poetry, blues, rock, and folk in settings ranging from stripped-down Sun Records-style rock & roll to lightly orchestrated folk-rock. The beautiful, briskly paced "Don't Make Promises" — which, along with "Reason to Believe," became one of the two huge songwriting hits here — opens the album on an ambitious note, its sound mixing a small-band and string section behind a confessional lyric. . . . |

Artists: The Andrews Sisters Album: Capitol Collectors Series Label: Capitol Year: 1991 Format, bitrate: MP3@320 kb/s Time: 01:08:23 Size: 154,5 MB (+5% recovery) AMG Rating: Ïóáëèêóþ ýòîò àëüáîì â ÷åñòü Äíÿ ðîæäåíèÿ ã-íà LEX. Ïîçäðàâëÿþ! Happy Birthday! Twenty-five Andrews Sisters tracks dating mostly from October 1956, after the trio reformed following Patty Andrews' attempt at a solo career. On signing them, Capitol Records got the trio to do new versions of their classic Decca hits for the LP The Andrews Sisters in Hi-Fi. The effort was a worthy one, as the trio still sang splendidly, and with all of the verve they'd displayed 20 years earlier, and Vic Schoen, who'd done all of their band arrangements back when, was present for these sessions as well. In view of the easy availability of their hits for Decca Records, the material on this CD may seem superfluous, but the performances have much of the same easy, swinging charm that their late-'30s and 1940s classics displayed, with better recording to go with it, and the trio's maturity -- the sisters were in their forties rather than their twenties -- works in their favor, allowing them to add a few fresh nuances and articulate the lyrics anew, giving listeners a pleasing look back at the old with just a smidgen of new thrown in. Additionally, at the time of its release, the sound on this disc was superior to that of any of MCA's CDs of the original hits, although they have since improved those masters. ~ Bruce Eder, AMG |

Artist: McCoy Tyner Album: Reaching Fourth Label: Impulse! Year: 1962 Release: 1963 (LP); 1998 (CD) Time: 34:02 Format: FLAC Size: 200MB AMG Rating: Pianist McCoy Tyner's second set as a leader has as of 1996 not been reissued on CD. Featured in a trio with bassist Henry Grimes and drummer Roy Haynes, Tyner performs two of his originals ("Reaching Fourth" and "Blues Back") plus three standards and "Theme For Ernie." One of the two most original and influential pianists to fully emerge in the 1960s (along with Bill Evans), McCoy Tyner's unique chord voicings and ease at playing creatively over vamps pushed the evolution of jazz piano forward quite a bit. This outing, although not as intense as his work with the John Coltrane Quartet, is generally memorable and still sounds quite viable 35 years later. ~ Scott Yanow, AMG |
