Kenny Wheeler & John Taylor - Where Do We Go From Here? |

 |
Artist: Kenny Wheeler & John Taylor Album: Where Do We Go From Here? Label: CamJazz Year: 2004 Release: 2005 Quality: mp3 CBR 320 Size: 122 MB AMG Rating: . . . Диск носит своеобразное название, перекликающееся с опытом и возрастом Кенни Уилера – "Where Do We Go From Here?". Дальнейший путь, который должен определиться в этом возрасте, выглядит довольно странно. Казалось бы, настало время, чтобы подумать о том, как завершить карьеру, но нет, всё у них ещё впереди, невзирая на возраст. Jack Wilkins - Captain Blued |

Artist: Jack Wilkins Album: Captain Blued Label: Greenstreet GS-2004 Year: 1984 Format, bitrate: mp3, 192 kbps Size: 55mb Time: 36:53 ... "Captain Blued" is a curious recording in that I can find very little evidence that it was ever made! It's produced by Creed Taylor on the Greenstreet Record label and it includes the accompaniment of one of the best alto sax guys you could want, the great veteran Phil Woods, along with other familiar names like Harvie Swartz on bass. Yet there is little mention of this recording anywhere. Doesn't appear to be available these days, so I felt it my duty to let folks hear what they might be missing. Some of these songs, like "Captain Blued" and "Mexico", were also recorded (different versions I believe) on other albums so you should be able to find some of that out there to buy on CD. This particular LP is definitely another winner for Wilkins. The tunes are all enjoyable and nicely arranged. Add to that he wonderful voicings from Mr. Woods and great contributions from all the other supporting cast and I will predict that you will be glad you gave this a listen. Although this is all generally straight ahead jazz, you will find diversity in the moods and stylings here. Many exciting moments to enjoy. It should make you want to hear more of this master guitarist and he does have a site that offers listens and downloads from many of his other albums, including a bunch of live gig cuts. |

Artist: Jack Wilkins Album: Alien Army Label: ENJA Year: 1990 Format, bitrate: mp3, 192 kbps Size: 79mb Time: 53:54 AMG rating Jack Wilkins enters the realm of the certifiably slick. Long admired as a chord-melodist of the first rank. On ALIEN ARMY Wilkins demonstrates a new level of relaxation and keen sense of form and development to go along with his formidable chops, yet never whips it out simply for the sake of technical display...harmonically surprising and authentically funky. |

Artist: Jack Wilkins Album: Reunion Label: Chiaroscuro Year: 2001 Format, bitrate: mp3, 192 kbps Size: 96mb Time: 65:28 AMG rating Back in 1977, guitarist Jack Wilkins led a very rewarding recording date, Merge, that featured trumpeter Randy Brecker and tenor saxophonist Michael Brecker playing straight-ahead jazz. For this reunion date, Wilkins, bassist Eddie Gomez, and drummer Jack DeJohnette are joined throughout (except for the guitarist's feature on "But Beautiful") by Randy Brecker, although brother Michael is unfortunately only on two selections. Wilkins and Randy Brecker have many fine solos, and the repertoire consists of five group originals, Horace Silver's "Break City," and three standards. Although not reaching the heights of Merge (it is a pity that Michael Brecker was not along for the whole project), this is mostly a high-quality quartet outing of fine post-bop jazz. Worth exploring.~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide |

Well, instead of complaining about all the inactivity of old heroes, I’ll be happy for the comebacks we’ve seen lately; the magnificent JaR album (Jay Graydon & Randy Goodrum), ROBBIE DUPREE’s ”Time And Tide” album and BILL CHAMPLIN’s ”No Place Left To Fall”.>>> |

Joe Pass - One For My Baby |

 |
Artist: Joe Pass Album: One For My Baby Label: Pablo Year: 1988 Formrate: mp3@ 192 kbps Size: 71 mb Time: 50:25 AMG rating Virtuoso guitarist Joe Pass didn't need sidemen on any recording, but when he used them, he chose wisely. Tenor saxophonist Plas Johnson, keyboardist Gerald Wiggins and drummer Tootle Heath had not recorded with Pass previously, but along with bassist Andy Simpkins, they achieve a perfect first-take sound on each track. The title cut features Pass with Johnson's bluesy sax and a soft organ and brushed background. Two Pass originals are lengthy blues vehicles with plenty of solo space for all. "I Remember You" is an unlikely choice that developed from Wiggins' jamming in the studio; the ballad is a relaxing detour from the blues that dominate the CD. Joe Pass was without peer on guitar the last 20 years of his life; his playing here won't disappoint. ~ Ken Dryden, All Music Guide |

Artist: Jack Wilkins Album: Windows (LP) Label: Mainstream MRL 396 Year: 1973 Formrate: mp3@ 192 kbps Size: 48mb Time: 33:38 Trio with this guitarist at his jazziest. A virtuoso. ~ Michael G. Nastos, AMG A superior, slightly underrated improviser, Jack Wilkins has proven on his infrequent recordings as a leader that he ranks near the top. Wilkins, who studied with John Mehegan early on, learned vibes, piano, and classical guitar, but has stuck to jazz guitar throughout his career. He gained a strong reputation during his long association with Buddy Rich. Since then, he has recorded as a sideman with Jack DeJohnette, Eddie Gomez, Phil Woods, Harvie Swartz, and the Brecker Brothers, among others. But it is his own recordings for Mainstream, Music Masters, CTI, and especially his pair of essential Chiaroscuro albums in 1977 (the single CD Merge reissued all of the music except one song) that allow one to hear what a talented player Jack Wilkins has always been. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide |

Sam "The Man" Taylor and his Orchestra and Chorus - Harlem Nocturne |

Artist: Sam "The Man" Taylor Album: Harlem Nocturne Label: MGM Records Year: 1957 Format, bitrate: MP3,320 kbps Size: 52,9 MB A certified honking sax legend, Sam "The Man" Taylor's non-stop drive and power worked perfectly in swing, blues, and R&B sessions. He had a huge tone, perfect timing, and sense of drama, as well as relentless energy and spirit. Taylor began working with Scat Man Crothers and the Sunset Royal Orchestra in the late '30s. He played with Cootie Williams and Lucky Millinder in the early '40s, then worked six years with Cab Calloway. Taylor toured South America and the Caribbean during his tenure with Calloway. Then, Taylor became the saxophonist of choice for many R&B dates through the '50s, recording with Ray Charles, Buddy Johnson, Louis Jordan, and Big Joe Turner, among others. He also did sessions with Ella Fitzgerald and Sy Oliver. During the '60s, Taylor led his own bands and recorded in a quintet called the Blues Chasers. He currently has one session available on CD, recorded in the late '50s with Charlie Shavers and Urbie Green. ~ Ron Wynn, AMG |

Artist: Toots Thielemans Album: Blues Pour Flirter (Jazz in Paris) Label: Emarcy Year: Jan 3, 1961,Jan 4, 1961 Release: Jun 5, 2001 Format, bitrate: mp3, 320kb/s Size: 77MB Для моих друзей Toots igraet na.... gitare Although Toots Thielemans is far better-known for his virtuoso harmonica playing, he sticks exclusively to guitar on this pair of studio dates, initially taped in 1961 for Polydor. Accompanied by pianist Georges Arvanitas, bassist Roland Lobligeois, and drummer Philippe Combelle, Thielemans leads a primarily laid-back session with the focus on the leader, covering standards ("Willow Weep for Me" and "We'll be Together Again"), adding a soft wordless background vocal to "Satin Doll," and giving a loping treatment to Milt Jackson's "Bags' Groove." No matter that none of Thielemans' compositions have come close to matching the widespread popularity of his huge hit, "Bluesette"; two blues he wrote for this date, "Le Trottoir" and "Flirt" (the latter of which is the only track to feature his famous whistling), are very enjoyable. Even if this Verve CD reissue falls short of being an essential purchase, any fan of Toots Thielemans will want to acquire it. ~ Ken Dryden, All Music Guide |

Artists: Stan Getz & Antonio Carlos Jobim Album: Their Greatest Hits Year: 2007 Label: Verve Format: MP3 @320kbps Size: 119mb (RS.com, with 5% file recovery + Cover) The great American jazz saxophonist Stan Getz joined forces with the Brazilian composer, pianist, guitarist, and vocalist Antonio Carlos Jobim, one of the fathers of the bossa nova, in the early 1960s. The results were remarkable: Both men’s reputations received an immediate boost, and the world received a bounty of exquisite and unique music. Here are some of the most timeless examples of Getz’s way with a Jobim tune, both with and without the composer at his side, as well as some memorable recordings that Jobim made as a leader after his work with Getz catapulted him to international stardom. Included are such classics as ”The Girl from Ipanema” (featuring Astrud and Joгo Gilberto), ”Wave,” and ”The Waters of March.” -- Vervemusicgroup.com REPOST with a new link. |

 |
Artist: Bill Evans Album: Spring Leaves 2LP Label: Milestone Year: 1959-1961 Quality: mp3; 320 kb/s Size: 64+60 mb (with covers) Bill Evans's greatest trio was the one with bassist Scott LaFaro and drummer Paul Motian during 1959-61. In addition to their justifiably famous Village Vanguard recordings (performed just two weeks before LaFaro's death in a car accident), Evans's Trio also recorded the two studio albums (originally titled Portrait in Jazz and Explorations) that are included on this two-LP set. The interplay between the three musicians (with LaFaro assuming as important a role as Evans) was very influential on rhythm sections from the 1960s up to the present. "Autumn Leaves" (heard in two versions), "When I Fall in Love," "Blue in Green," "Nardis" and "How Deep Is the Ocean" are among the many highlights of this very significant body of work. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide |
