Artist - Dizzy Gilespie Album - At Newport 1957 Label - Verve Year - 1957, release - 1995 Quality - MP3/320kb/s Size - 162 mb Total time - 72:20 AMG Rating: REPOST with new link This CD features Dizzy Gillespie's second great big band at the peak of its powers. On the rapid "Dizzy's Blues" and a truly blazing "Cool Breeze," the orchestra really roars; the latter performance features extraordinary solos by Gillespie, trombonist Al Grey, and tenor saxophonist Billy Mitchell. In addition to fine renditions of "Manteca" and Benny Golson's then-recent composition "I Remember Clifford," the humorous "Doodlin'" is given a definitive treatment, there is a fresh version of "A Night in Tunisia," and pianist Mary Lou Williams sits in for a lengthy medley of selections from her "Zodiac Suite." This brilliant CD captures one of the high points of Dizzy Gillespie's remarkable career and is highly recommended. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide |

Edgar Winter's White Trash - Roadwork (Live) |

Artists: Edgar Winter's White Trash Album: Roadwork (Live) Label: Epic Year: 1972 Format, bitrate: MP3, 320 Kbps Time: 66:18 Size: 133 MB AMG Rating: The live follow-up to 1971's Edgar Winter's White Trash finds the group running through a handful of the tunes from their debut album, as well as rocking things up a bit with "Still Alive and Well" (a track later recorded by Edgar's brother Johnny) and "Back in the U.S.A." One of the most immortal lines for any live rock album has to be "People keep askin' me -- where's your brother?" The introduction of guest artist Johnny Winter by his brother Edgar sets the stage for a rousing rendition of Rick Derringer's "Rock & Roll, Hoochie Koo." The extended version of blues classic "Tobacco Road" is one of the finest moments on this album, which is itself a classic. ~ Michael B. Smith, All Music Guide |

Artist: Edgar Winter Album: Edgar Winter's White Trash Label: Epic Year: 1971 Format, bitrate: MP3, 320 Kbps Time: 43:49 Size: 88,4 MB AMG Rating: Perhaps one of his best-loved albums, Edgar Winter's White Trash combined funk, blues, R&B, and rock & roll to create one of the freshest sounds of the early '70s. Touching on gospel with "Fly Away" and "Save the Planet," Winter and his band cover all the bases, climbing into the lower end of the Top 40 with "Keep Playin' That Rock and Roll." Winter's hauntingly beautiful "Dying to Live," featuring some of his best piano work, serves as a valid anti-war statement, written at the height of the Vietnam era, and the remainder of the record is filled with genuine rock & roll/boogie-woogie/blues that will keep your head bobbing and your toes tapping. ~ Michael B. Cal Tjader - Along Comes Cal |

Artist: Cal Tjader Album: Along Comes Cal Label: Verve Year: 1967 Format, bitrate: mp3, 320 kb/s (Vinyl Rip) Size: 81 MB Another killer session from Cal Tjader. There are two stand-out classics on this album. The first is the live recording of "Los Bandidos" which is awesome and a reworking of "Samba Do Sueñho" from the classic "Bamboleate" album with Eddie Palmieri. This version of "Samba Do Sueñho" is more uptempo with an incredibly tight and slamming rhythm section. It also has a fantastic piano solo by Al Zulacia. This version just keeps getting better and better so grab it because it's hot!
Due to the popularity of 'Samba do Suenho', this was a very sought after album by 'rare groove' DJs in the 1990s. But all tracks are great here. It's surely one of the most consistent sessions Tjader did for Verve and it's one of his purest latin jazz sessions of the '60s, too. |

Artist: Carmen McRae Album: Book of Ballads Label: Kapp Year: 1958 Format, bitrate: mp3, 320kbp/s Time: 42:56 Size: 102MB The Book of Ballads in question is the Great American Songbook, and Carmen McRae breathes new life into some of its most dog-eared pages on this wonderful session that heralded the close of her Kapp Records tenure. McRae tackles material like "When I Fall in Love," "Isn't It Romantic?" and "How Long Has This Been Going On?" with uncommon care and intelligence, summoning rich new meaning from the familiar lyrics. In her hands, the songs pulse with energy and life. Arranger Frank Hunter and a supporting trio led by pianist Don Abney also merit commendation for nuanced, evocative backings that afford McRae the necessary space to do her thing. ~ Jason Ankeny, All Music Guide |

In place of the bluesy focus on his first two albums, Winter extended himself into more of a rock-oriented mode here, in both his singing and his selection of material... |
