1980: Davitt Moroney - The Well-tempered Clavier |
Music |

 |
ФИАЛКИ по СРЕДАМ (выпуски 54-55) Composer: Johann Sebastian Bach Artist: Davitt Moroney Album: The Well-tempered Clavier, books I & II Label: Harmonia Mundi Year: 1980 Genre: classical music Format, bitrate: mp3, 320 kbps Time: 4 h, 31 min, 54 sec Size: 640 mb.

2005: Lorraine Feather -Dooji Wooji |

Artist: Lorraine Feather Album: Dooji Wooji Released: 2005 Label: Sanctuary Quality: mp3, CBR, 320kb/s Size: 97 MB After years of working and writing for the studios and for commercial groups, Lorraine Feather has found her niche in jazz as an inventive lyricist. Previous albums featured her very successful and witty words to Fats Waller and Duke Ellington piano pieces. Dooji Wooji, which has four Ellington tunes in the repertoire plus collaborations with Shelly Berg, Bill Elliott, Russell Ferrante, and Eddie Arkin, continues in the same vein even if most of the tunes are much more obscure. This time around, Feather, who is usually backed by five or six horns and a rhythm section, is particularly effective on the more bluesy material such as "A Ramble Through the Park," although she also does a fine job on the opening cooker "Calistoga Bay" and the uptempo "Indiana Lana" ("Jubilee Stomp"). The dozen selections are concise and the total time of the CD is under 42 minutes but what is here is excellent, almost coming to the high level of her classic Fats Waller set, New York City Drag. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide |

1954-1955: Ruby Braff - The Best Of Braff |

Artist: Ruby Braff Album: The Best Of Braff Label: Bethlehem Archives/Avenue Jazz Years: 1954-1955,release:1999 Format, bitrate: MP3, 320kbps, cover scan at 1380x1380 Time: 38:45 Size: 70 MB AMG Rating : Rhino's The Best of Braff is a reissue of a Bethlehem collection that featured highlights from two ten-inch albums, A Ruby Braff Omnibus and Holiday in Braff, which is also released as Adoration of the Melody. Braff was at the beginning of his career as a leader here, yet he was already playing with ease, as these 12 songs illustrate. He may have gained greater popularity in the years following these recordings, but these remain among his finest waxings -- and this is a nice way to acquire them. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide |

1960: Art Taylor - A.T.'s Delight |

Artist: Art Taylor Album: A.T.'s Delight Label: Blue Note Year: 1960, release: 1988 Format: mp3 Size: 84 mb AMG rating : Although Art Taylor was one of the busiest modern second-generation jazz drummers, working in the studio with Coleman Hawkins, Donald Byrd, John Coltrane and many others, he only released five albums under his own name, of which A.T.'s Delight was the third. And a delight it is indeed, bright and percussive, and when conga player Carlos "Patato" Valdes joins Taylor and pianist Wynton Kelly and bassist Paul Chambers on three cuts (Thelonious Monk's "Epistrophy," "Move" and a Taylor calypso-inflected original called "Cookoo and Fungi"), the rhythm pocket opens into a deep blue sea for the horn men (Stanley Turrentine on tenor sax and Dave Burns on trumpet). "Move" does exactly that, it moves, and at a blistering pace. Monk's "Epistrophy," thanks in part to Valdes, reveals its rumba roots, and has never sounded brighter. The seldom-covered Coltrane composition "Syeeda's Song Flute" seems likewise refreshed and revived. The lone Taylor original, the driving "Cookoo and Fungi," is as sharp and alert is a kitten waking from a nap in the spring sun, and Taylor's drum solo is crisp, efficient and slides seamlessly into the calypso-informed main theme. A.T.'s Delight is a solid outing, with a wonderfully nervous but completely focused energy. ~ Steve Leggett, All Music Guide |

2007: The Modern Jazz Quartet - Before Venice |

 |
Artist: The Modern Jazz Quartet Album: Before Venice Label: Jazz Cats Records Genre: Jazz/Cool/Third Stream Format mp3, bitrate: 320 kb/s Time: 51:07 Size: 118 Mb (covers) Through the years the quartet had performed in several jazz styles, including bebop, cool jazz and third stream. The enigma of the MJQ's music-making was that each individual member could improvise with an exciting vibrancy but in toto the group specialised in genteel baroque counterpoint. Their approach to jazz attracted promoters who sponsored 'jazz packet' concerts during the 1950s. One show would consist of several contrasting groups. The MJQ were ideal participants because no other group sounded like them. They provided a visual contrast as well, attired in black jackets and pinstriped trousers. The group played blues as much as they did fugues, but the result was tantalising when one considered the hard swinging potential of each individual player. Their best selling records typified their neo-classical approach to polyphony. - Recordstore.uk |

1956: Tadd Dameron with John Coltrane - Mating Call |

Artist: Tadd Dameron, John Coltrane Album: Mating Call Label: Prestige/OJC Year:rec.Nov 30, 1956 / rel.1995 Format: MP3 @ 320 Kb/s, flac + cue + scan Time: 34:45 Size: 75,6 Mb, 190 Mb. AMG rating: To my friends in JBC! Please enjoy, this is very rare album!
This fine set, recorded on November 30, 1956, has been reissued several times, often as a John Coltrane date, but make no mistake, this is a Tadd Dameron session, and his elegant compositions are its key component. Coltrane was fresh off playing with Miles Davis in 1956 and was still a year away from heading his own sessions and three years away from recording Giant Steps, so it might be said that he was in transition, but then when was Coltrane not in transition? Dameron wisely gives him plenty of space to fill, and the rhythm section of John Simmons on bass and the great Philly Joe Jones on drums (not to mention Dameron's own characteristically bass-heavy piano style) give Trane a solid bottom to work with, and if the spiritual and edgy emotion of his later playing isn't quite in place yet, you can feel it coming. But again, this is Dameron's date, with each of the six selections an original Dameron composition. There's so much to marvel at here, including the Bahamian rhythms of the title track, "Mating Call," the gorgeous build of "Soultrane" (often the title when this set is issued as a Coltrane date) and the undeniable grace and elegance of "On a Misty Night" (based in part on the melody line to "September in the Rain"). The straight blues piece "Romas" is also a lot of fun, particularly for Coltrane. Mating Call, or whatever title it sports, whether under Dameron's name or Coltrane's, is a solid and frequently overlooked gem. Don't hesitate to pick it up. ~ by Steve Leggett, AMG.
