1968: James Brown - I Got The Feelin' |

Artist: James Brown Album: I Got The Feelin' Label: Polydor Style: Funky , soul Year: 1968, release: 2003 Format, bitrate: mp3\256 kbs Size: 67.2 ÌÁ (with covers)
Funky funky funky! A nice one on King that shows the direction James Brown would take in the 70s a bit harder and more funky than before, with even more of a focus on the instrumental talents of the ensemble! The band here is super-sharp playing with that tightly focused, highly funky groove that James virtually invented at the time ringing out with pride and boldness that are undeniable! The album mixes a few older obscure numbers with the best newer ones and the set's a no-filler package that's filled with great cuts! Titles include "Stone Fox", "Maybe Good Maybe Bad (parts 1 & 2)", "Here I Go", "I Got The Feelin", "You Got The Power", and "Just Plain Funk". © 1996-2010, Dusty Groove America, Inc. |

Artist: Charlie Parker Album: Bird - The Original Recordings Of Charlie Parker Label: Verve Years: 1949 - 1953, release: 1988 Format: MP3 320kbps Time: 48:22 Size: 99.2 MB (covers included) Sharebee Ïðåäëàãàåì ñíîâà ïîñëóøàòü Ãåíèàëüíîãî ñàêñîôîíèñòà! Bird: The Original Recordings of Charlie Parker is a compilation of 12 tracks recorded by Charlie Parker during his years with the Verve label. The CD isn't in chronological order or even comprehensive enough to deem it a "best of." That is not to say that this album doesn't contain some phenomenal recordings; it does. Bird features some of Parker's best, including "Now's the Time," "Blues for Alice," and "K.C. Blues" (the latter is a collaboration with Miles Davis). In addition to the 11 studio tracks, it also has a 12-minute live version of "Lester Leaps In" which features the tune's composer, Lester Young. Since most Charlie Parker fans will have these songs on other discs, they can probably skip this one. However, this is a decent place to start for those looking for an introduction to Parker or bebop. ~ Curtis Zimmermann, All Music Guide |

1949-1956: Getz, Gray, Quinichette And Sims - The Rare Dawn Sessions |

Artists: Stan Getz, Wardell Gray, Paul Quinichette, Zoot Sims Album: The Rare Dawn Sessions Type: Compilation Label: Collectables Records Years: 1949-1956, release:1994 Format: mp3, 320 kbps Time: 52:35 Size: 125 mb (megaupload) AMG rating: Drawn from various sessions in the 1940s, THE RARE DAWN SESSIONS collects tracks by four then up-and-coming jazz saxophone legends. What all have in common is their chief influence, Lester Young, whose heartfelt tone helped to change jazz after his emergence in the 1930s. All four tenor saxophonists here epitomize class, melody, and swing, and all adapted to innovations in bebop and cool jazz. While Stan Getz is perhaps the best known of the four, all are Captains of Cool and well-worth hearing - cduniverse.com. |

1967: Benny Goodman & Paris Listen to the Magic |

Artist: Benny Goodman Album: Benny Goodman & Paris Listen to the Magic Label: Command/ABC Year: 1967 Quality: MP3@320 kbps Size: 93,3 mb (sharebee) Total time: 42:45 Âûäàþùèéñÿ êëàðíåòèñò èìïðîâèçèðóåò íà òåìû ïîïóëÿðíåéøèõ ìåëîäèé, ñâÿçàííûõ ñ Ôðàíöèåé è Ïàðèæåì! Most reviews of post-war Goodman records are based on the thesis that "things ain't what they used to be". Obviously, at this point in time, Goodman is not the dynamic force or leading figure he was three decades ago so let us just accept Benny's records for what they are. Tese 12 titles are strung together (and how I loathe the now-obligatory 'programme' demanded by LP compilers!) by tenuous links with France, and Benny sounds as if he enjoyed the session. The rhythm section is workmanlike and comprises Goodman's pianist from the 1940 band, Bernie Leighton, bass player George Duvivier, guitarist Attila Zoller (who gets too little solo space for he is a fine musician) arid drummer Joe Marshall, late of Johnny Hodges's little band. On most of the tracks the front line comprises Goodman flanked by Joe Newman and Urbie Green. The recorded sound is quite brilliant with a sense of presence which seems to be part and parcel of the Command label's selling technique. There are a few fluffs here and there during Goodman's own solos but they are usually brought about by Benny's uninhibited approach to the faster tempos. Marshall occasionally lifts the entire group up by its collective boot-straps and the music takes on a purposeful resolution which is exhilarating. Strangely enough the sextet swings hardest on the more unlikely tunes including How Ya Gonna Keep 'Em Down On The Farm and Mimi. The weakest tracks are those on which Benny plays the melody slow and fairly straight but as these tracks ate in the minority the LP may be safely recommended to Goodman collectors and lovers of swing-style small groups. 2004: Jazz at the Philharmonic - The First 10 Years |

Artist: Jazz at the Philharmonic Album: The First 10 Years 4 CD set Label: Proper Sales & Dist. Year: 1944 - 1954; release: 2004 Genre: Jazz/Swing/Bop Format mp3, bitrate: 320 kb/s Time: 4:55:10 Size: 704 Mb (full covers + booklet) From 1944 onwards, impresario Norman Granz used his considerable talents as an organiser and promoter to put together the definitive musical "package tours" of the day. Starting out with a gig in LA, and a lineup including Illinois Jacquet, Nat King Cole and J.J. Johnson Granz booked nationwide concert hall tours that included all of the star jazz soloists of the day, playing in a jam session style setting. These proved phenomenally popular, despite some critical sniping about the grandstand nature of some of the playing, and the tours were also notable for the racial integration of their lineups. As well as being popular with audiences, the tours were popular with the musicians and this shows in the quality of the issued recordings that originally emerged on Granz's Verve label. This 4CD set presents the cream of the crop from 1946 1952, including nearly every notable soloist of the day, and tells the full story of this pioneering and much loved institution. - worldsrecords.com |

In Oct. of 96 Scarlet Runner independently released a full length compact disc entitled "South Chain Gang" with 10 original songs as well as a cover of Hendrix's " Manic Depression". The Hendrix song was recorded in one take for the purpose of using it to send in for the Hendrix Competition but was dubbed too good to leave off the disc by the producer. The disc is receiving air play all over the U.S. and is being seriously looked at by different labels. |
