1962: The Dudley Moore Trio - The Theme from Beyond the Fringe and All That Jazz |

 |
Artist: The Dudley Moore Trio Album: The Theme from Beyond the Fringe and All That Jazz Label : Atlantic Year: 1962 Quality: mp3 @ 256 (own LP-rip) Size: 69.9MB (with cover) Moore first came to prominence as one of the four writer-performers in the ground-breaking comedy revue Beyond the Fringe in the early 1960s, and then became famous as half of the highly popular television double-act he formed with Peter Cook.
His fame as a comedy film actor was later heightened by success in hit Hollywood films such as 10 with Bo Derek and Arthur in the late 1970s and early 1980s, respectively. He received an Oscar nomination for the latter role. He was frequently referred to in the media as "Cuddly Dudley" or "The Sex Thimble", a reference to his short stature and reputation as a "ladies' man".
In August 1962 Atlantic records released an LP entitled "Dudley Moore Plays The Theme From 'Beyond The Fringe' And All That Jazz".
This album consists of eight tracks of some of the best of what I term "soft jazz" to come from the wonderful talent that was Dudley Moore. |

2010: Shining - Blackjazz |

Artist: Shining Album: Blackjazz Label: Indie Recordings Year: 2010 Genre: Fusion jazz, black metal/jazz Format, bitrate: mp3, 266kbps Time: 57:19 Size: 104mb An astonishing blend of industrial, metal, free jazz, and raw electronic noise, Shining's Blackjazz represents more than a leap forward for the band; it's the kind of album artists will be striving to equal for years to come. Comparable to Ministry's The Mind Is a Terrible Thing to Taste, Blackjazz mixes scorched-earth synth-guitar riffs and concussive drumming with the unholy shrieks and post-Coltrane saxophone of group leader Jørgen Munkeby. The production by Sean Beavan, who's worked with Nine Inch Nails and Marilyn Manson, among others, gives this a pummeling edge -- the drums sound sampled from NIN's "March of the Pigs," while the synths and guitars have a fullness and warmth that are crushingly heavy without being mere noise for its own sake. Munkeby's vocals are a death metal roar, his lyrics the usual metallic litany of rage and despair. All this would be impressive enough, but it's even more so considering how mild, relatively speaking, Shining's last two discs, 2005's In the Kingdom of Kitsch You Will Be a Monster and 2007's Grindstone, were. The electronics and general loudness of those two albums were significantly reined-in compared with the howling chaos of songs like "Healter Skelter," "The Madness and the Damage Done," and "Exit Sun," not to mention the positively apocalyptic, nearly nine-minute cover of King Crimson's "21st Century Schizoid Man," sung by Enslaved vocalist Grutle Kjellson, that closes the disc. This is one of the most assaultive, addictive albums around, a rip-roaring journey through sonic violence that will leave most quivering in the corner and others (a special few) totally enraptured. ~ Phil Freeman, All Music Guide |

1985: Buddy Rich - Live On King Street, San Fransisco |

Artist: Buddy Rich Album: Live On King Street, SanFransisco Label: Cafe Records Year: 1985 Format: DVD-audio Iso - MLP,DTS,DD Time: 102:26 Size: 3.84Gb (9 files) AMG Rating: Drummer Buddy Rich's final recording (he would pass away exactly two years from the day before this recording took place) does a superb job of summing up the career of his big band. This three-LP set, all recorded during a gig in San Francisco, serves as a fine retrospective, with the highlights including remakes of "One O'Clock Jump," "Love for Sale," "Mexicali Nose," "Cotton Tail," "New Blues," Channel One Suite" and the famous "West Side Story Medley." Steve Marcus (on tenor and soprano) is the main soloist, although there are also significant spots for pianist Bill Cunliffe, trombonist Scott Bliege, trumpeter Paul Phillips and the still-incredible drummer. This out-of-print three-fer (put out by the audiophile Mobile Fidelity label) is definitely worth searching for and is a perfect ending to Buddy Rich's remarkable career. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide |

1950: Joe ''Fingers'' Carr - Joe ''Fingers'' Carr And His Ragtime Band |

Artist: Joe ''Fingers'' Carr Album: Joe ''Fingers'' Carr and his Ragtime Band Label: Capitol Records T443 Year: 1950 Format, bitrate: mp3 320 kbps CBR Time: 25:40 min Size: 57,59 Mb Although Lou Busch (not Bush, he changed the spelling) is best known for his honky-tonk piano recordings under his stage name, Joe "Fingers" Carr, his contributions to space age pop go well beyond that. He got his start early, leading his own band by the age of 12 and leaving home at 16 to work as a professional musician. He played with a number of sweet big bands--Clyde McCoy, Henry Busse, and George Olson--then took a short break to study at the Cincinnati Conservatory.
Joe 'Fingers' CarrAfter that, he went back to the sweet bands, this time joining one of the most successful of them, Hal Kemp's. Bush stayed with Kemp for most of the 1930s and married the first of his several wives, the band's girl singer, Janet Blair. After the band's lead arranger, John Scott Trotter, departed in early 1936, Bush and fellow band member Hal Mooney split most of the arranging duties. When Kemp died in from a car crash 1940, they moved to Los Angeles and started working as studio musicians, but World War Two came along and pulled Bush into the Army for a three-year stint.
When he returned to L.A. in 1945, he hooked up with Johnny Mercer's fledgling Capitol Records label and ended up working as an A&R executive. He continued to do occasional session work as a pianist, though, and provided the key ingredient in the 1949 Jo Stafford-Paul Weston hit, "Ragtime Cowboy Joe." In 1950, he sold the label on the idea of recording his ragtime playing, and he made up the name, Joe "Fingers" Carr, during his initial studio session. His first single, featuring his original tune, "Ivory Rag," became an international hit.
Although Capitol played up the nostalgic cariacature of Carr the honky tonk pianist, wearing derby hat, bowtie, vest, and suspenders, Bush tried not to let his recordings slip into mere novelty.
Carr's success spurred a revival of ragtime in the form of camped-up honky tonk. ~ discogs.com |

1981: Red Rodney with Ira Sullivan - Night And Day |

Artists: Red Rodney with Ira Sullivan Album: Night And Day Label: Muse Records (Catalog#: MR 5274) Year: 1981 Format: FLAC (LP-Rip) Size: 165MB Time: 33:14 AMG Rating: The Red Rodney-Ira Sullivan Quintet was one of the finest groups of the early 1980s. Rodney had an opportunity to play fresh material; Sullivan gained more exposure than he ever had in his career; and pianist Garry Dial was given high-profile and challenging writing assignments; bassist Barry Smith and drummer Steve Bagby completed the band in mid-1981. On this Muse LP (their fourth of six recordings), the musicians perform fresh versions of two standards ("Night and Day" and "You Leave Me Breathless"), plus four challenging originals. Sullivan plays trumpet on three of the six pieces, alto on two, and soprano on one. The exciting "Dial-A-Brew" is a highlight of this recommended (but sadly out of print) set. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide This studio date was the final Muse session for this band and it is truly a monster! Ira plays trumpet along with Red on three of the tunes, alto on a couple and one on soprano. It is kind of a rare sound with two trumpets fronting a quintet but Ira's versatility gives this band a lot of sounds to work with; as a result none of these albums sounds quite like the last. Ira's alto solo on Muck and Meyer is so strong you have to wonder why he didn't use that horn more. Do yourself a favour and grab a listen from a clean vinyl rip. |

2008: Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band - Act Your Age |

Artist: Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band Album: Act Your Age Label: Immergent Records Year: 2008 Quality: MP3@320 kbps Size: 154 mb Total time: 67:34 REPOST by reqest Act Your Age, the fourth album by Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band (not counting its soundtrack for the film Bah, Humduck! A Looney Tunes Christmas), is of a piece with the group’s first three releases, another relentlessly eclectic collection that is, at least for most of the first half of its running time, less interested in developing the modern possibilities of the big band than in merging the big-band sound to other styles. Goodwin has always brought in seemingly unlikely guest stars to create pop and rock hybrids, whether it was Johnny Mathis singing ”Let the Good Times Roll” (on 2003’s XXL) or David Sanborn leading the group on ”Play That Funky Music” (on 2006’s The Phat Pack). He has been rewarded with unusually strong sales for jazz, in the range of 14-20,000 copies per release. >>> |

1996: Tito Puente & India With Special Guest Count Basie Orchestra – Jazzin' |

 |
 |
Artists: Tito Puente & India With Special Guest Count Basie Orchestra Album: Jazzin' Label: RMM Year: 1996 Quality: MP3@320 kbps Size: 81 mb Total time: 42:12 Âåëèêîëåïíûå âîêàëèñòû, ïðåâîñõîäíûé áèã áåíä! Although the great Latin bandleader Tito Puente gets first billing and the Count Basie Orchestra "guests" on three of the ten selections, the obvious star of this set is singer India. Her emotional delivery borders sometimes on going over the top, but India is quite skilled as an interpreter of lyrics (both in English and in Spanish), as a scat and Latin jazz singer. She alternates standards with newer tunes and is assisted by such soloist as Puente (on vibes, marimbas and timbales), pianist Hilton Ruiz, altoist Bobby Porcelli, Mario Rivera on tenor and flutist Dave Valentin. This CD is a fine effort with plenty of spirit and exciting moments. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide |

1957: Red Mitchell - Presenting Red Mitchell |

 |
Artist: Red Mitchell Album: Presenting Red Mitchell Label: Contemporary/ OJC Year: 1957, CD 1992 Format: mp3@320 / flac Size: 100 MB / 244 MB w/scans Time: 42:51 AMG Rating: Bassist Red Mitchell, who had led two fairly obscure sessions for Bethlehem in 1955, came up with a gem on his lone Contemporary set as a leader (which has been reissued as this CD). Based in Los Angeles at the time, Mitchell utilized pianist Lorraine Geller and two up-and-coming players: James Clay (who splits his time between tenor and flute) and, in one of his first recording sessions, drummer Billy Higgins. The quartet performs then-recent tunes by Miles Davis, Sonny Rollins and Clifford Brown ("Sandu"), a pair of Mitchell originals, "Scrapple From the Apple" and "Cheek to Cheek." Despite Higgins' and (to a lesser extent) Clay's connections with Ornette Coleman, the music is strictly high-quality modern mainstream bop of the era. Easily recommended to collectors of straight-ahead jazz.~Scott Yanow, All Music Guide |

1972: The Dudley Moore Trio - Today |

Artist: T he Dudley Moore Trio Album: Today Label: Atlantic Year: 1972 Format: Flac (Lp-rip) Size: 948 MB (Full Artwork) During his university years, Dudley Moore took a great interest in jazz and soon became an accomplished jazz pianist and composer. He began working with such leading musicians as John Dankworth and Cleo Laine. In 1960, he left Dankworth's band to work on Beyond the Fringe. During the 1960s he formed the "Dudley Moore Trio" (with drummer Chris Karan and bassists Pete McGurk and later Peter Morgan). Moore's admitted principal musical influences were Oscar Peterson and Erroll Garner. In an interview he recalled the day he finally mastered Garner's unique left hand strum and was so excited that he walked around for several days with his left hand constantly playing that cadence. The trio performed regularly on British television, made numerous recordings and had a long-running residency at Peter Cook's London nightclub, The Establishment. ~ Wikipedia.org Many people are completely unaware of the fact that, in addition to being an accomplished actor, Dudley Moore was also an extremely talented jazz pianist and composer. ‘Today’ released in 1972 is the last studio album by The Dudley Moore Trio. It features both original compositions and cover versions, including a sublime version of ‘The Look of Love’. It has never been released on CD. |

Artist: The Dudley Moore Trio Album: The Dudley Moore Trio Label: Decca Year: 1969 Format, bitrate: mp3; 320 kb/s Size: 86,14 mb (with front cover) This 1969 self-titled album consists of all-Dudley Moore compositions and was the first album by the Trio that did not feature any cover versions. It is a lovely album and deserves to be heard by a bigger audience. There was an outstanding album "Jazz Jubilee" released in 2004 which featured concerts by The Dudley Moore Trio recorded in Australia and England during the seventies. The revenue from this record's sale was, at the time, going to charities supported by Dudley Moore. I don't know if the album is still available, but if you see it, check that the charity rules still apply, and if so, think about buying the album. ~ allthat.blogspot.com |
